Here in Rochester we are seeing a lot of wind straight out of the east. The snow flakes just a few minutes ago started to show up. Not heavy but there. I just looked at the map again and there is no way this is going to miss us here unless Wisconsin developes a black hole around the Madison area and sucks this system sideways.

Winter storm Kayla. doah All people in the NE are collectively laughing at us. Of course I laughed when they named that storm but at least it was monsterous with 3 times as much potential.

    Winter storm Kayla.

OK. I am ashamed, too. Let’s blame it on Iowa. Minnesotans would never do such a thing. Winter Storm Kayla? I call this Tuesday. rotflol

Leave it to the media to have to name something as simple as a snowstorm. Morons.

It has just started snowing in the Waterloo area according to a friend. I’d be fine with a freak warm-up to around 60 and some day-long thunderstorms.

Naming snowstorms. Wow. The wussification of America is now complete, we’re naming snowstorms.

It used to be just the south…

The weather channel started naming storms other than hurricanes last year or the year before. Kinda hoky if you as me. Like Ralph said, its Tuesday and snowing. Just another television network vying for viewers by over estimating what is actually going to happen. Not that this isn’t going to be a dangerous storm, because it looks like it going to dump over a foot in some areas and have winds pushing 50mph.

Who decides when storms get named anyway? Is that the National Weather Service?

Naming by The Weather Channel started in November 2012, TWC began systematically naming winter storms, starting with the November 2012 nor’easter it named “Winter Storm Athena.”

When they named the last winter storm to hit Washington DC, “Snovechkin” I briefly lost the will to live.

Right now if I had to look for traffic up the street 50 feet I could not see it. Snowing sideways too. I live on a very busy street and traffic right now is slight. I’m happy to not be out and about in this.

Blowing this should be easy….just raise the chute all the way and blow from east to west. With the wind we have here right now the snow would easily make it across the street to the neighbors over there.

This picture was taken 3 hours ago, now that the wind is really winding up it’s really bad, the DOT cameras on the bridges are just about a 99% white out. Pretty sure we just went past 10 inches
