The good news? My black beast keeps rolling right along, still tows like a champs and looks pretty darn good doing it if I take the time to give her a bath.

The bad news? This isn’t the first time I’ve reset my “fuel used” meter. Man, I drive TOO MUCH! doah

Here’s to the next 9,999 gallons! I could not possible ask for a better, more reliable tow vehicle. toast

Been hearing way to many things going wrong with newer Chevy’s. Major motor issues. From neighbors, friends, even my father had to get all new pistons.

When I picked up my truck few weeks ago an 05 Tahoe with the vortec 5.3, I decided to stick with the older tried and true engines rather the new. Hope they figure it out, love my Chevy’s.

I’m just glad my truck is so basic that it doesn’t show the mpg.

But, I bet you don’t regret a gallon of that gas!!

Nope, sure don’t. I’m going to have to do something special for my truck when it hits 300k here shortly. New mud flaps? Fuzzy dice for the mirror?

Diesel is actually lower than unleaded fuel right now. I am sure someone will notice that and raise Diesel back up. I filled up while I could.

I forgot about those. I think that is a fad that needs to continue to fade from memory.

James, it sounds like you might be getting that d/max wore in finally. I’m on track to end this year between 460 and 470K. If I squeeze in another trip out to Granby and P/dogs before Elk season and late Aug to eries for smallies, I’ll easily be over the 470 mark. Only significant regret in all the gallons of fuel not driving it more. We did a few P/dog shoots in WY and CO and drove the toy corolla to save a few bucks. When all done and smelt like crap, the extra room in the truck was desperately needed. Goal is to see 650,000, though its body is saying otherwise

Jeez James, how is it that you’re not on the Markquart Motors Pro-Staff, and get a new set of wheels every year that’s color-matched to your new Skeeter?

Maybe Dean needs to get involved over there, eh?

    Hahaha, HRG

Good question! He’s not using ALL those trucks on his lot, right?! mrgreen

After giving this some more thought if I was to buy a newer truck I’d want it to be a 2005 – 2007 Chevy Duramax. Everything I’ve heard about the newer diesels, Ford, Chevy, Dodge, has been the EPA requirements enacted in 2007 really hurt the fuel economy the newer trucks are capable of achieving. But finding a low-mileage and well-cared for truck of that “vintage” likely won’t be easy. So who knows what the next truck will be. Right now I’m hoping for 400K+ out of this one which is amazing given I paid $21k for the truck with 60k miles when I bought it used and I’ve had very limited repair costs since I’ve owned it.

I would not rule out the Pre-Diesel Exhaust Fluid GM products. Pre 2011 I think. I have a 2009 with the Diesel Particulate Filter and have no complaints. It has plenty of power pulling my 5th wheel and boat, and when unloaded down the highway I get over 20mpg.

I have an 03 Suburban that just hit 250k. It’s a great truck and still runs like a top. The new ones just aren’t the same, less ground clearance, more plastic. Thanks EPA!
We just bought a used 2015 Chevy Traverse two days ago. Hope it provides years of hassle free enjoyment. We liked the Ford Edge and the 4 cyl. Ecoboost was pretty peppy for a 4cyl but having the turbo go out wouldn’t be cheap!

I’ll drive the Suburban until it dies and will replace it with a pickup. I’ve never owned a diesel but will give them a look.
80-100k miles is the new 40-60k it seems like.

I had a 2010 Suburban, the good: great tow vehicle, can’t match the room, and had pretty good gas mileage for a large vehicle (22 hwy, 16 city, 19 MPG avg over 89K miles driven).

The bad: Had it in for repair on a fuel evap issue 9 times, the rain rails were rusting to the point of disintegration, and the final straw was burning oil at 82K and the huge puff of smoke coming from it on startup…

I had bought a 01 Toyota Sequoia that was fantastic, no rust, ran like a top, and had good room(really like this vehicle!). Toyota recalled that vehicle under concerns of it not being properly rust proofed for Northern Climate. For the recall they undercoated the entire vehicle. I was very impressed a company would do that to a vehicle that at that time was 13 years old. So, I Traded the Suburban in for a Toyota 4 Runner. Should have been a Sequoia but could not pass up the deal on the 4 Runner. Had it for a year now and very happy with it still.
For the first time since I was 14 years old I do not own a GM product. Don’t know that I will go back.

12 MPG when towing both at 55 MPH
18 MPG with just the boat at 55 MPH
22+ MPG at 55 MPH by it self
2005 GMC Duramax and I would be a fool to upgrade, I love the truck and the mileage.

Just rolled over 260K on my ’05 D-Max. Its needs a a new set of wheels, a little body work, and there are a few LED’s that are starting to fail in the dash, but like James, I’m looking to make 400K. Its been a great truck.

My D-Max is still a puppy. 65k miles.
It is a 2012 LML. 2500HD standard box club cab.
Worst day chumming to the store a few blocks away and back, 13.mpg.
Pulling the 4k,lb boat to Oahe, Branson or to The Lake of the Woods, 16mpg.
    55/65mph on cruise 24/21mpg.
65 to 80 mph traveling not towing, 21mpg solid!
This is not coming from the “DIC” (which is liberal) but Actual hand calculated.

I love my 2002 Silverado gasser at 147K miles. Paid off for years, just runs, and doesn’t have all of that new crap that is just more stuff to break and have your truck sitting at the dealer. It’s a truck. Although I am glad it has leather seats and the heated seats can come in handy some of those cold days.

I am tempted from time to time to upgrade into a newer one for some more power, but then I look at the monthly payments and say nope. Plus I like how my truck is low enough to actually reach over the bed to grab stuff. The new trucks are just way too dang high.
