Mike Masse’ does a lot of great covers. Here he is covering “Africa” before it was cool to cover Africa, 8 years ago.
Here he is doing The Sound Of Silence
As a song, Thunderstruck has some great covers done on it.
Steve’N’Seagulls

The man who sold the world by nirvana
Chris cornell , nothing compares to you.(prince)
Nirvana does some great covers and will always be one of my favorite bands. I’ve grown to love Evanescence just as much and their cover of Heart-Shaped Box is amazing.
Drift Away, recorded by Dobie Gray. Great song, easy to perform and rarely covered.
The previously mentioned covers by Disturbed are great. I enjoy their covers.
Previously mentioned,
Shout – Cover of Phil Collins
Sound of Silence – Cover of Simon & Garfunkel
Add
The best version of Land of Confused – Cover of Genesis
I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For – Cover of U2, is ok.
Where do you draw the line of a “cover”? Do all the reboots of Robert Johnson’s songs count?
Examples,
Malted Milk – Redone by Eric Clapton
Crossroads – Redone by Eric Clapton/Cream
Love is Vain – Redone by the Rolling Stones
Metallica covering Thin Lizzy’s cover of an old Irish tune – Whisky In The Jar?
Jonny Cash redoing Hurt – Nine Inch Nails is great.
His last version of That Lucky Old Sun – Sung by everyone gets me every time.
Cake’s I Will Survive redo of a Gloria Gaynor hit.
Sheesh, the more I think about this.
Israel Kamakawiwo’ole Redo of Judy Garland’s Somewhere Over The Rainbow.
Even though he mashes a couple songs into one, I have both versions and he hits it with so much emotion that I can’t make it through Judy’s original version.
If anyone is curious to hear Pink Floyd done reggae it’s worth checking out “Dub” Side of the Moon. They do a very good job.
Agent Orange covering Metallica’s “Seek and Destroy”
Throwdown covering Sir Mix-a-Lot’s “Baby got back”
Vader covering Venom’s “Black Metal”
Dimmu Borgir covering Twisted Sister’s “You’re Gonna Burn in hell”

Their cover songs are awesome. The spin they give to the music is unique done with repect. Trinity sessions turned me on to then back then.
My vote for best cover song, mentioned before, is Patty Smith singing Van Morrisons ” GLORIA”. Punk with soul and rock.
A cover song done correctly one will not choose who does it best.
Heard it through the grapevine CCR ,smoking in boys room , the cru
PostModern Jukebox channel has tons of them in various older styles: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCORIeT1hk6tYBuntEXsguLg
Kawehi does solo covers: https://youtu.be/jMNIvLiCnw8
Postmodern does some good stuff. One of the singers, Hailey Rienhart does some great stuff on her own.
A couple of posts up, that lady playing the harmonica is Indiara Sfair. She’s really good!

Sweet Jane-good one! Lou Reed said the CJ version was better than his-wow
Went threw a bunch of great covers with a music nut he concluded that the best are little known songs by famous artists-So sweet jane not too well known by a famous artist. Was really thinking of an exception and here it is……….
Van Halen covers the Kinks You Really Got Me.——true to the original but they bring their own style to it too.Great tune by both bands.
Not a cover but tribute that brought a tear to my eye. A Hard Rains A-gonna fall at Dylans Nobel piece prize.
COWBOY JUNKIES of “Sweet Jane” by Velvet Underground.

Part of what made that song, and the album, so good and unique was how it was recorded. They rented a church, hence ‘Trinity Sessons’ which gives the large natural hall affect in the recording.
On Sweet Jane the lead singer was away from the rest of the band, a different area of the church. She sang into a mic that fed a single Klipsch Heresy speaker placed near the band. Another mic then picked up her voice coming out of the Heresy.
I think it is in the song Mining for Gold where you can hear the warning bell of a nearby railroad crossing in the background.
This is a good album to use to showcase a good listening room and playback system because the reverb from the hall, and the train, give a sense of scale on playback.
Dr. John’s Gilded Splinters has a lot of good versions. I really like how Paul Weller and Johnny Jenkins do it. Even Cher’s version is pretty good. Widespread Panic plays this frequently, one of my favorites from them live.
