For the second year in a row, opening weekend is too early for me. WAY too much crop still in the field right now. Where I hunt in MN, nobody has turned a wheel in the corn yet. Beans are 40-50% done, which is about 2 weeks behind.
With thousands of acres of corn standing, the pheasants are going to be VERY tough to pin down in the early going. I’m keeping my powder dry for the last weekend in Oct.
I’ll be holding off, too. Lots of October family obligations this year, but you make some valid points that make me feel better about that, TFG! Although, I did feel some jealousy watching my neighbor load up his truck this morning.
Billy and I are going out tomorrow in pursuit of some pheasants! It should be a beautiful day from the sounds of it. And hopefully we have better luck than last weekend’s grouse hunting experience. We only jumped one grouse, pretty far off, no shot.
Even if we don’t get anything, we’re both very excited to see how Fritz does at pheasant hunting!
