I have yet to get on the ice this year and it’s driving me nuts. Am I the only one that has the itch so bad I’m about ready to take off on the road tonight. I think I am feeling too fish sick to work.

I haven’t either. Busy year. At this point I’m doubting I’ll be out before trout opener, but I WILL be out for that. Probably not nearly as far north as I’d like.
December 12, 2019 at 9:51 pm #1897575I just decided I’m calling in to work sick tomorrow. I got a buddy who has a cabin in Wisconsin. He said he has good ice. I’m out, good luck everyone.

That’s what’ll happen when you spend too much time following social media.
30 years ago, if you weren’t out there already…you’d have no idea what you were missing.
I’ll be kicking off next weekend, which is actually a little early for me.
December 12, 2019 at 10:03 pm #1897581Just put everything in the truck and I’m set to go. Hopefully this works well since I just started this job 3 weeks ago. My wife is not happy but I need it and she understands my sickness. I hope everyone can get out.

Good luck man
deertrackerPosts: 9237December 13, 2019 at 6:48 am #1897604I am in the same boat. Hopefully I can get out this weekend. If not i wont get out tell the 23rd
December 13, 2019 at 6:57 am #1897606Not until next weekend for me.
Good luck Rodworks and be safe.December 13, 2019 at 7:08 am #1897609Just put everything in the truck and I’m set to go. Hopefully this works well since I just started this job 3 weeks ago. My wife is not happy but I need it and she understands my sickness. I hope everyone can get out.
Hopefully your employer is not on social media/IDO and your wife doesn’t know any good lawyers. Ha ha. Good luck.
December 13, 2019 at 7:22 am #1897611I was able to get out on 11/16, then we lost our ice. Since then I have been shore fishing 1 time (boat is in storage). I’ve been going crazy also.
Going out tomorrow for sure probably Sunday too.

Man, you need to pay better attention round here
Good fishing and safety to you, rodwork!

Hope your employer is as understanding as your wife. Only 3 weeks and calling in sick can raise some eyebrows and suspicions with a employer going forward. The old call in on a Friday is usually another red flag employers pay attention too.
But hey good luck and have fun!
December 13, 2019 at 8:56 am #1897640A solid 4 inches where I was yesterday the 12th. 70 miles from my home.
DeucesPosts: 5236Ice CapPosts: 2161December 13, 2019 at 12:16 pm #1897714Geez ice cap, don’t be such a Debbie downer.
Yeah I know but real life can be that way at times! I managed a group of 30 people where I worked and sick calls were a constant problem especially on Fridays and Mondays. The other people always had to pick up the slack which didn’t make the sickies any friends at work either and caused other problems.
I have no idea his work situation maybe it doesn’t pose any extra burden for his coworkers and he will just have to catch up when he gets back.
Sounds the like the op realizes it as he said he “hopes it works out as I just started the job three weeks ago”.
But good luck to the young man and tight lines!
December 13, 2019 at 12:21 pm #1897716Send me a PM or text, I’ll be fishing about 20 minutes from your place tomorrow and wouldn’t mind the company. No need to travel, I’ve been fishing around our place since November 9th, with only 1 week off from that warmup.
SW EyesPosts: 211December 13, 2019 at 3:51 pm #1897793I’ll be out for the first time tomorrow morning.
I’ve never been more prepared. I’ve been tinkering with my gear for a good month now.

Going out tommorow also.

Friday call-ins are usually to kick-off a long weekend.Mondays are usually recuperation, aka”Miller flu”.Seemed most prevalent during football season. When I worked in machine shops,I was often asked to fill in for the absentees and run an extra machine or 2.I simply said I will see what I can do.When 1 machine only got about 30% production,I said that is better than 0% if they whined.
December 16, 2019 at 7:59 am #1898314Wow, I didn’t expect a response like this. Sorry I didn’t let my boss know ahead of time, but the owner suggested I should since I finished my first project 3 weeks ahead schedule. I would not have done this if he didn’t. Felt great to get out and we caught lots of little panfish and pike. The ice was not safe enough to get to where I thought the bigger ones were.

Pshhhh… I take off Friday’s to go fishing or hunting all the time. Not a single eyebrow is raised. People who put the work in lots of times receive great opportunities. My boss wants me to treat myself to some fishing to have a good work/life balance.

I think there’s a little difference between abusing sick time 3 weeks into a job vs properly using your PTO/Vacation/Comp, whatever it may be.
