I’m just curious if anyone here has fished God’s Lake/River for Brookies?
I’m about to book a trip for my dad and I as a thank for him being a dad. And this is his request.

Most here are interested in Devil’s Lake, what does that tell ya?!

I haven’t but my grandpa and uncle went several times. They would stay at a place on the lake and take a float plane trip to the river once or twice a trip. The size of brookies they caught were unreal.
The late forum member KWP went to God’s Lake and then up God’s River to fish brook trout.
The pictures were unreal. Huge brook trout. They were slamming mouse fly patterns. He had a terrific time.
Great trip if you get a chance.

Since Grouse mentioned it, I had to find the REPORT cause it’s a beauty, both the description and the pictures. Hope it helps with your planning, good luck when you go.
Wow that’s a awesome looking trip
That particular linked report was not from God’s River, I’m afraid. The linked report details a trip to an extremely remote river that KWP did not want named on the web.
KWPs trip to God’s River was with his brother Mitch. I will ask Mitch if he has any digital photos of that particular trip.
I do recall the guides at God’s Lake were very excited that somebody actually wanted to fish brook trout. They get a little bored fishing pike and actually enjoy brook trout trips but few anglers have the combination of skill and time to pursue these fish.
Long before he joined this forum, kwp racked up hundreds and hundreds of river fishing miles in pursuit of brook trout in the far north. As far as actual boots on the ground time, he may have been the most experienced far north brook trout angler in Minnesota. He had some tremendous stories and pictures.
Tegg is still around that we does not post here very often. He also has racked up a tremendous number of miles in pursuit of trout in the far north. His tales include a rather memorable dust-up with a polar bear where he came out on top despite being only armed with his wits and a 7-weight fly rod.
Sorry Grouse, I know KWP was a good friend of yours – I just saw you say big brookies on mouse patterns and my mind instantly went to that post. Cheers
I appreciate the words fellas.
The trip is in the works, and it looks like we’ll be attempting to make the trip work in 2025.
