Go-to company for home window tinting?

Thought I’d throw this out to the font of all knowledge, this place has been a goldmine of recommendations for all manner of services.

I need the go-to company or guy for applying window tint to HOME windows. This isn’t a murdered out lowrider job, it’s a twinhome with big windows and almost all of them face south and west. Ug! The sun is just brutal this time of year and turning the place into an oven. Pulling all the shades makes the place like living in a dungeon. Window tint is needed.

My parents just bought this twinhome. The home is in White Bear Township, just east of 35E on 96. I need about 6-8 of the bigger windows professionally tinted with a high-quality product that’s going to last. DIY el cheapo kits and products won’t cut it, this needs to be a pro job that’s going to last.

Who’s the north/east metro go to company or guys for this kind of job? If it matters, I’ve been known to pay cash for a high-quality job done right.

    Recommendations appreciated.

I have had vehicles done at Tintmasters Motorsports in Burnsville and they did a superb job. I know they also do commercial and residential windows, but do not have experience with them in that regard. I believe they also have a Maplewood location, worth giving them a call.

I have found that the professional shops that will only tint vehicles to legal limits or with prescription only, are the reliable and quality shops you want. If the shop doesn’t care about following the law, why would they care about quality? Just my opinion. Obviously there is no law on tinting home windows, but almost all shops that do homes, also do vehicles.

Grouse, is the house just regular siding? We have the same issue – a west facing house that turns into a sauna on hot, sunny days. I looked into tinting the windows but was told it wouldn’t help because we have a brick house. The bricks heat up and radiate heat into the house. It takes until about midnight until they cool down on days like Saturday. We were told the best option was to get a second air conditioner to cool the house more efficiently. Doesn’t help the house was built in 1939. It has MAC updates but that only partially helps.

The tint would help get more light into the house which would be great but doesn’t really solve the heat problem.

I could throw it past my buddy “tint head” not sure were he is working in the state now but he gets up to the cities area when he is doing bank jobs ( tinting not robbing). He has been at it for 30 years and does commercial and private tinting.

    Thanks for the replies.

To fill in, this twinhome was built in 2000 but they do not appear to have upgraded to Low E glass. The siding is vinyl and the insulation is good, it’s just the sun coming through the big windows really heats up the interior in the mid to late afternoon.

Bigpike, happy to talk to anyone about the job, but will need to have it done in probably early July.

alternative to think about would be tinted roller shades. I’ve been homes with big picture windows and I was amazed the difference they made.
Tinted windows make it a lot harder to see outside at dusk and into the evening. Mix it up and use both.

Thanks guys. Have called Tintmasters and Sun Control. Will get them to come out and give estimates when the parental units have moved in.

Have you looked at UV control roller shades.

Took this picture this morning, south facing window. I have 18ft of glass

Late Fall, Winter, and Early Spring – they are up and I get free solar energy.

It can be 20 below in the mid-winter, my boiler has been off since 10 a.m. and by 3 p.m. it is 78 degrees in my house from the solar gain.

With the shades down, they filter 85% of the UV and you can still look out.

I’ll second Sun Control, whenever I have a commercial job that needs window film they are the company I call. Can’t say they will be the lowest cost but they do a great job.

I believe Sun control charges about $7 a square foot for window tinting

    Good suggestions, many thanks.

My mom doesn’t want to hassle with shades and some of the windows are arched so shades would look weird.

This home will need the tinting year-around anyway. Having all your windows except for 1 facing either south or west makes it basically a must do even for winter.
