I agree, I thought he had recovered that fumble too. My understanding is that the skycam is not an angle the replay officials have access to. That’s what Burkhardt said anyways.

As a Vikings fan taking an objective look at things and offering a little sympathy to the enemy – we feel ya. I mean, Washington won – and I was routing for the Pack because I believe that would’ve meant a home game for us next week IF the Vikings beat the Rams.

But that game was just about a replay of Last week’s Viking’s/Lions game. Defense did all it could to keep you in it but the offense just didn’t show up. While my disdain for Green Bay is baked into my genetics, I think I hate the Eagles more. I would’ve loved to see the NFC North still have 3 teams in the playoffs after week 1.

And to top off the fumbled kick off, the tackle was a penalty also… leading with his helmet to helmet. The announcers even said, Philly’s message all week was to be physical.

The tone was set from the kick-off… who didn’t see a clear recovery by Nixon, before the biting and punching and wretching the ball away any way possible pile started ? I did.

I didn’t, it was still moving around when it piled up and was no longer in site. And a runner, like a kick returner, has a different set of rules than WR/QB’s, that was close but pretty clean hit imo. Facemask up and into the chest, one of the few still legal types of big hits!

The bottom line in GB is Love/MLF seemed to take a big step back this year, they have some big questions at WR particularly their contracts (Reed) and injury status of Watson & Doubs longer term. Jacobs and Hafley/Defense overachieved and were the driver for their solid season imo.

Season Recap from the Eyes of a Packer Fan

Good Things: Defense as a whole schematically was improved and eliminated the big plays, Xavier Mckinney (all pro), Josh Jacobs (top 5 RB in the league), Edgerrin Cooper, Tucker Kraft

Ok Things: Offensive Line play and health for most of the season, Lafleur (he has been steady and has won in the regular season with this group. He’s no Lombardi, but it’s hard to blame the playoff loss on him when guys were dropping like flies).

Bad Things: Special Teams as a whole seemed inconsistent this season, Jordan Love (had some decent stretches in the season but lots of improvement needed), Relative health of the team (you cannot have WR1, WR2, WR3, CB1, and your best OL all unavailable in the second half of a game with your season on the line).

Needed Changes: I’d love to see the Packers shuffle the staff a bit specifically who works closely with Love. They’re tied to him for now and have to get more out of him at the quarterback postion. They could use an impact pass rusher. The Packers have adapted to the NFL norm of playing a lot of 2 high, keeping everything in front of them and eliminating the big play. For that to take the next step you have to have guys who can get home with just a 4 man rush at times. I’d like to see the WR room a bit more settled in role and development. It’s nice to have a bunch of quality #2, 3 type guys for depth…but the offensive would look a lot different with a top 15WR from the league.

What would you like them to do at WR? Doubs and Watson have 1 year remaining, which either side may not want to see fulfilled, and significant injury concerns. Reed has 2 years left, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he sits in for a new contract given the money being paid at the position and the season he just had.

I highly doubt Reed would sit out and you could say his Rookie season was better than this past season. He really didn’t do much the last 5 games so not really in a position to demand a new contract.

Doubs past concussions are not good for his future and Watson might miss most of next year so his days are probably done in Green Bay.

Good point, I didn’t look up his #’s until now, and I guess it just felt like he had much bigger role this year, but really pretty much the same statistically. 64 receptions for 793 yards and 8 TD’s and 11 carries for 119 and 2 last year vs 55/857/6 and 20/163/1 this year.

Watson has been a walking bandaid since his rookie season, he can’t stay healthy, let him walk, Romeo had too many head bonks, might be time for him to hang it up, get a veteran WR,and draft one, sign a veteran cb and draft one to go with him. need studs in offensive line too. there’s a list of upgrades that they need. but you can’t compete with all young guys, you need high quality veterans to push them.

I like hearing Jacobs saying he’s going to be talking to some guys to get them to GB. Will anything come from it, who knows (It is GB after all. Not exactly known for the big splash in free agency). I would like to request that he reach out first to Max Crosby. We could use that man coming off of the edge and the Raiders are about to enter some dark times anyway.

In an ideal world, I’d love a Veteran Free Agent #1 or draft a top guy that you think could be a #1, healthy Doubs at #2, Reed as a gadget and slot guy, and maybe Wicks as the #4WR.

I hope Doubs can get healthy and beyond the concussions. He can run the full route tree and has knack for making tough catches. He’d be a great #2 (if healthy) moving forward. If they don’t think he can get beyond the concussions, then suddenly what was a deep WR room becomes a position of need and Day 1 or 2 need in the draft.

I would like to see them keep Jayden Reed and make him more of a focal point. When he gets the ball good things generally happen. He plays hard and is one of those guys that’s just tough to get on the ground regardless of what his measurables say. I don’t think he’s in any position to “hold out” for money and expect a bigger role for him next season playing in a contract year.

Wicks feels like a good #4 guy. He can be physical and make tough catches, but has had some drop issues too that pop up.

I wish Watson the best, but he’s been a walking injury since coming into the league. If you aren’t healthy at age 23, 24, 25 …it’s hard to see a world where you suddenly become known as durable. I wouldn’t spend much if anything to retain him.

He would be a great fit there (and I would hate it), but that would also require the Packers to trade for him since he’s still under contract, and likely extend him for big $$$ since he’s nearing the end of his current contract. Which would be a huge leap from whatever anyone thinks the “Packer Way” is currently.

    What’s Lafleur’s playoff record again?

Looks like KOC is going to catch him.

How is KOC going to catch MLF in the win column when he is 0-2 in playoff games? MLF doesn’t quit with over 6 minutes left in the game, unlike KOC.

I was so tired on Sunday for some reason I’m not sick. I missed all of the first game. I didn’t get up for the Packer game until after the Eagle’s first TD. All I can remember from the game is it seemed like Packer players were dropping out injured left and right. They lost, and Love didn’t play well. I ended up going back to bed before the start of the Bucs game. I did get up and watch a little bit of it, but soon after, I went back to bed. I didn’t look to find out who won the night game until after I was back from rehabbing my hip in the afternoon. I know next to nothing about the Washington squad besides they have an amazing rookie QB that is money under pressure. If Washington has a D that can get stops, the Lions are beatable. Wouldn’t that be something if the toughest Division in the history of the NFL all went one and done in the Playoffs? I wouldn’t be shocked if it happens.

I wouldn’t be too shocked either if all 3 NFC teams lose their first game in the playoffs. Detroit looks to be better coached than either the Vikings or Packers, but how soon will their luck run out with all their injuries. Not sure how many players they might get back for their next game, but one would think sooner or later all those injuries should catch up with them. If they keep winning with plugging in backups, you can expect both of their coordinators will be head coaches somewhere next season. For the rest of the NFC North, that might actually be a good thing.

All it takes to win in playoffs is for a coaching staff to draw up a stalemate of game plan and have your team get a lucky break or two or make a play at just the right time. That is how Washington went down to Tampa and won from what I saw of the game highlights. That Daniels kid has to scare the bejeebers out of DC’s. The kid can make plays.

I’m curious to hear from fellow GB fans, at this stage in the early post-season, if you could personally make one major personnel move what would it be and why?

For me I’m saying adios to Rich Bisaccia. For the first time in years (assuming we keep McManus) our kicking and punting spots are finally solid. Cool. But the rest of the special teams continue to be a cluster. Our punt return guys still field punts they should let go and let catchable punts bounce by. Our kickoff return operation doesn’t appear to have a strategy beyond “return it if you see an opportunity” which means we are constantly giving yards away. In addition to all of that, I believe his role as “assistant head coach” allows MLF to second-guess himself too much. It’s time for Matt to put his boots on and take the next step to leading this team.

Agree on the ST coach. Don’t forget if they ever do return a kickoff and not fumble, it seems like 7 out of 10 times there will be a holding penalty. I always figured it would be yards ahead to just down the ball and start at the 30. If it were me I would make a play to move up in the draft for a top edge or wr. Those are the 2 positions I don’t believe we currently have on our team IMO. This is already the youngest team in the nfl so how many more younger players do we need? Use some draft capital to move up in the draft for a blue chip player since at pick #23 it is more of a crap shoot. I would use the draft over trading for a veteran for salary cap purposes and the fact most teams are unwilling to part with those type of players.

So do you pack fans actually trust the front office to draft a wr? I mean how many have they drafted that can’t catch or stay healthy? You’re best shot is getting adams back. Even then you got love throwing errant footballs all over the place.

I would trust the Packer front office to draft a WR, long before if I would trust the Viking front office drafting any player at any position. Have you seen the Vikings last 3 drafts. All I can say is woof!!!! The Vikings 2022 draft netted 0 decent players, the 2023 only netted Addison, and Turner in this last draft can’t even get on the field. But keep drinking the purple kool-aid and getting your hopes up for next year just to be let down again.

Jury is 100% out on Jordan love. Yes the regression happened. Now you see how he bounces back. Not time to panic there.

Joe, the packers have drafted a lot of receivers in rounds 2-4. I’d actually argue they have hit on their fair share of serviceable pros in that category over the years. I can’t remember the last time they drafted one in round 1. Maybe early 2000s? Your question is kinda silly—- would i trust them to draft another wr… well that doesn’t really matter much because they’re gonna draft regardless of my comfort level
