I did my first crappie trip of the year yesterday up near grand rapids. We found some nice fish. Interestingly, my buddy had his limit before I iced my first fish.. bawling blush

These fish were acting odd. Mike was nice enough to clue me into the fact that he was getting them all on 3/8oz buckshot and a BIG jig with the biggest fathead in the bucket. Once I went back to the truck and pulled out my reserve walleye tackle, I was getting them too. I’ve caught them many times before on this lake, always on more typical crappie offerings.

Thanks Mike, you’re a star in my book. You’ve taught me yet another valuable lesson. I’m sorry about what my wife did to your truck!! whistling

I got most my fish on a w3 jigging rap.

Interesting that they bit only the big tackle… Glad you got some good meat to go with it!

We found the same thing this weekend up around Walker. We caught a few during the day but were tough lots a lookers only a couple would bite. Once we upsized our lure and just minnow head. We started to do better and a lot more action. Fishing 38 ft but all fish were suspended around 20 ft. Just kept moving around if you didn’t see the large school keep moving. Was a great trip and what a weekend to be on the ice.
