I have a 06 HD 1/2 ton (6.0 liter) and I just noticed the other day that when i start the truck the oil pressure gauge jumps all the way up and stays there. any ideas what may cause this.

    thanks

Turn the key forward but don’t start engine (KOEO). If the needle jumps to 80 without engine running, it’s a bad oil sending unit (sensor). It’s located on top of the engine in the back near the fire wall (hard to reach/see).

Yes replace your oil sending unit. This is a common issue in these years along with the 5.3 liters. GM part number is 12616646. Retail is right around $90.00 for OEM

03-06 GM gauge clusters are also known for having issues
