    Rant

This commercial irks me. Why are all these manufacturers obsessed with gadgets!? Do we really need a truck that doesn’t require our hands on the wheel? Are Americans that fricken lazy that now we can’t be bothered with driving anymore? We need a tailgate that opens up to 18 different configurations and costs 5k to replace!? We need an iPad on the dashboard….

How about a truck that just works? Goes from A to B, hauls what you need it to and lasts a long time. I guess the answer is yes Americans do want this crap because if they didn’t I’m sure the manufacturers wouldn’t design it.

Couldn’t agree more. Showing people driving without hands is irritating to say the least and I think irresponsible

The absolute worst one is the third year rerun “One for you, one for me” GMC trucks. Runner up is the “I got you a puppy, I got you a truck”. Both are cringworthy. smash

Cause GM can’t make a vehicle that “just works.” They need to add all that fancy computer crap to make up for the fact that their vehicles are government-funded junk.

Crappie, I’ll call you on my landline. I have a party line so we can dial in mnice and complain about all the new technology mumbo jumbo. Did you get a cordless phone yet? We still have the corded one in the kitchen but it stretches like 25 feet. I get done with my shift at Rax at 9 so I’ll call you then.

There’s technology that makes sense and there is technology that is stupid. My truck has an auto bright feature on there which turns my brights on for me when there are no cars around. It’s greatly appreciated and helps driving in rural areas at night. I can manage the steering wheel myself

I would never use auto pilot…I like driving. I still own 2 cars that have manuals. However, the vast majority of people likely don’t feel the same as most on this forum do. So, I don’t disagree with your rant. But please tell me you still don’t have a fuzz buster.

    I drive a 2018 Ram Tradesman

This baby has heat, tires, power windows, an 8′ bed that doesn’t have to be made and a Cummins diesel that could yank my house off the foundation mrgreen

Not much for frills, but it was the same cost as a decked out grocery getter half ton toast

I can live without air conditioned seats, a moon roof and a 16″ display. I just need a truck that can do what a truck is supposed to do, without costing another $20,000+ in creature comforts

I’m with you on this crappie. It’s ridiculous the way they make these vehicles and it’s hard to find bare bones.
I also notice no one seems to back up using mirrors any more. Everyone relies on cameras

The only time I rely on my camera is to hook up the trailer hitch.

I’m not so much talking you older gentlemen. You guys been using mirrors for 100 plus years. ( totally joking ). It’s the younger people. Watch a parking lot at Walmart or cub sometimes. If they click reverse peoples eyes don’t leave the dashboard.

I agree on all the $hit their putting on vehicles is crazy in a bad way.I cringe every time i see the commercial for the self driving trucks.I in no way trust any of the big 3 with my life and that kind of technology.I see everyday how they screw up somewhat simple stuff.
I do like the cat commercial with Walter though.

This summer I ordered a F350 crewcab long box. Ordered it with only what I wanted, when I was done at the dealer it was $1500 more than an F150 built almost the same way. What people are paying for a half ton is beyond stupid.

The waiting on delivery is a completely different story, guess I will just hurry up and wait…

Paying 60k for a half ton, stupid ? Come on. They brag about it. I paid 25 for my 17 with 1300 miles on it. Browsing the dealership the other day looking for a 3/4 ton gasser I was offered 30 with 75 rounds on it.

    A camera to back up?

They must have forgot to install that in my ole Ford F150 XL.

I will admit I am jealous of some of the new technology I’ve seen in some of the newer trucks, though. Something referred to as ‘electric windows’. Man. Those look sweet.

Just wait until the 1 to 3 year olds become drivers.

The driving test will be on a computer…after all, they won’t need to touch the car…wait, do they make cars anymore?

Of all the crap on my new F150. It doesn’t have climate control or electric mirrors. My 2011 GMC had both for 20K less. Since mirrors are made of plastic, I do like heated mirrors to remove ice without the mirror breaking. But it does have a knob on the dash to back up a trailer. Yeh, I’m going to mess with that and learn to drive all over again. I’m the only one that drives it. So, the seats, mirrors and pedals are all still where I adjusted them to a year ago when I test drove it. I also would be fine if the backup cam, just showed the hitch. Unfortunately, a lot of the cost and potential for problems built into new vehicles. Is government mandated for safety and fuel economy.

When I got my CDL at the ripe age of 18 years old, I drove over to the courthouse in a single axle dump truck. The gal giving me the driving test asked me how I had gotten there to the courthouse. I told her my dad drove me over then walked downtown to do some shopping.

After the driving test, she just said with a chuckle under her breath; “You have been doing this for a while”. Yes, I passed.

I’m in the same boat. Been driving a big work truck since before I was allowed to drive a big work truck. Mirrors were my only option

Man, if you think GMC commercials are bad wait until you realize that every other commercial is for pills you don’t need.

GM is always behind on tech. If anything, all the bs gadgetry is to keep on the same level as Ford and FCA.

Even the new Toyotas are now just turbo sixers with tablets on the dash and gadgets spilling out every which way. The cool thing is you can still buy a work truck, or even crazier, buy an older truck that is set up the way you want and save $30k. The choice remains yours until big gov’t starts mandating new vehicles.

As TV advertising guy ( for 14 more days until semi-retiring) I am laughing at the comments here. Just the fact that the OP noticed the commercial and commented about it the advertisers dream. Companies that advertise products are wanting to sell those products and YES, that is what most people want. I too often laugh at some of my farmer friends that make comments about the “stuff” that people have in the world as they warm in $250K tractors with GPS that is so much more accurate than my boat and have computers that map out every inch of a field in order to apply the right chemicals to that particular part of their fields. Point is, we all have some tech that we love and we all love to make fun of others tech loves. While I don’t feel I have a need for the fancy tailgate, I admit that I sure would like the heated and cooled seat” -)
