Gimmicks – Fishing or Others

I remember buying the electric landing net that would temporarily shock the fish so you could extract the hook.
Yeah – It killed them but my buddies and me would sit around the campfire taking turns shocking each other.

or the magnet you stuck on the side of your vehicles carb for better gas mileage.

Tinfoil over the windows and worn as a hat. Enough said.

A variation on the magnet. Attaching two magnets with a hose clamp around the gas line.

Copper bracelet on the wrist to prevent arthritis.
Taping magnets to a water line to get soft water.
Squirting magic potions on your lures to catch more fish.

I got suckered once into “ Ford Tough” giving that truck away was the best vehicle decision I ever made.

Angus beef is another one. Many better breeds out there

Ford tough only went towards the Ford ranger

I didn’t use them but weren’t there artificial weeds you could sink when you were ice fishing to create fake structure? That seemed like a huge gimmick.

Also, the Banjo minnow.

I’d forgotten about Reel Weeds. A friend and I made our own out of Christmas holly and tinsel. May have fooled us but not the fish.

My buddy got suckered into this one but not me. He paid a couple hundred bucks and now he has a piece of paper saying he is the owner of an NFL team.

Color C lecTor. Got one as a gift once. Gimmick for sure.

I think about half of America thinks that is a gimmick, you can really see it when you go to the grocery store.

Great thread! When I was 16 I worked in a gas station and a number of guys had 2 cow magnets taped next to their incoming fuel lines. Gas was really starting to get expensive in the early 70’s so I guess anything that they thought would work was worth a try. Cow magnets were easy to get and cheap so WTH, costs nothing. I think my dad even tried it. You could get cow magnetics at a local beef processing plant or at the feed store in town.

When I was kid I thought that scent spray you could put of your lures was pretty cool. My uncle bought the fake weeds for ice fishing, but I never fell for that one LOL
