The FW has been hassling me for some birthday gift ideas. I always struggle with this (I’m knid of picky, so I usually just buy something if I want/need it), so I thought I’d look to the IDO gurus. What are some lower-budget (i.e. not a new shotgun or $1000 GPS) things (gadgets, clothing, etc) that you find handy or indispensable as a pheasant hunter?

Upland hunting pants or chaps – Couldn’t imagine hunting without them. I’ve never worn chaps, just upland pants, but I’m sure chaps work just as well.

Boot warmer/dryer- Love mine in the fall! I don’t know about you, but my boots always get a little wet with sweat or from walking through some too deep muck. It’s nice to have dry and warm boots to put back on the next day, especially on a SD trip.

Vests – I just have one, a little bit of heavier but still nice one. It’d be nice to have a cooler mesh one for early season or warm weather hunts too though.

Gloves – Something that you can still shoot with. Some people like to always wear gloves, something lightweight to protect against brush. I only like gloves when it is cold out. So a few different options out there.

Dog First Aid Kit – Always something nice to have with you in the vehicle. Some of them can be fairly expensive.

    Dog Skunk Odor Remover

Depending on how you travel to your hunting spots (car, pickup, SUV, dog in bed or backseat, kenneled or not). Dog Kennel, I’d like to get a Ruff Tough Kennel someday! Dog Kennel Cover to keep them warm.

Dog water dispenser, holder, canister, etc.

    Knife or game scissors.

Vacuum Sealer for freezing meat (amazing for fish and anything else going in freezer as well).

Clothing or accessories off the PF Website.

    Next years shells.

Shell Reloader if that’s something you’d be interested in.

    New gun case.

I am very particular too. I know it is lame, but most times I just prefer gift cards so I can get it myself.
I am in need of a new pair of boots and possibly a new game vest/jacket.
Those might be good ideas provided you can give specifics as to exactly which ONE you want. -)
I’m picky about things like for a game vest I do not want shell loops. I prefer bellows pockets that snap closed. I’m afraid that if I asked for a game vest, I would get one with no pockets in the front and shell loops. The ones I like are very hard to find.
What might be easier is something that you would like for your dog. Perhaps a new kennel, or water/feeding type things when hunting or skidplate for the pooch or ???

Oh, mnrabbit has a great one in the boot dryer!!! I hadn’t had one until last year and it is priceless!! Those are amazing.
Used it all winter when the kids slosh around in the standing water in our ditch. Boots are dry the next morning! That is a great suggestion if you do not already have one!

I do have a boot dryer, and it is fantastic! ) I could use another, though, since mine will only dry one pair at a time.

This is the style boot dryer that I have. Anyone have the smaller ones that just slip inside the boots? Do they work? I like the one that I have, but having multiples would take up a bit of space.

I know Peet makes a dual dryer for 2 pairs of boots and a thing for gloves that works well and doesn’t take up much space

I have the peet for 2 pair and it is amazing! For folks that read instructions unlike myself this wouldn’t be a problem, but make sure if you put Mucks or other super tall boots in there you roll the top of the boot down.
Don’t ask me how I know it causes problems. -)

Upland art prints and the like are nice for the man cave or anywhere in the house. My wife knows what I like to hunt and of course our dog breed, so over the years she has bought me a lot of cool upland art.

A set of tinted quality shooting glassware nice in the field and protect your eyes.

A good set of thin leather shooting gloves are nice in the field for chilly fall days or on the sporting clays course.

Billy has the boot dryers that are the little orange things you just stick in the boots. I forget which brand, but he says they work okay. The upright ones work better though. Couple guys at his old work had those and liked them.

Thought of one more thing: a knife with replaceable blades. I have the http://www.gerbergear.com/Knives/Folding/Vital-Pocket-Folder_31-002736 and there is also Havalon but it’s more expensive http://www.havalon.com/piranta-edge-skinning-knife-xt60edge.html

They are ridiculously sharp and you don’t have to worry about maintenance or using it for something that will ruin the blade, just throw it out and clip in a new one. I only rarely use it pheasant hunting (shears are enough usually) but I always have it with in my bag, never know when you will need it for something.

Not sure what state you hunt but koutdoors has a great mapping chip for GPS (if u have one) that displays all public hunting land. I still use PRIM maps from the DNR but really want MNTrax to help find hunting areas when I’m out. Shows borders as well as some lake info also.

That looks cool. Unfortunately, they don’t make a Lowrance chip anymore.

I really like my Mud River Dog Handler Bag: https://mudriverdogproducts.com/product/dog-handler-bag

You’d think they’d put some more pictures of it on their website roll It has a ton of pockets and I can fit everything I need for the dog, bird cleaning, first aid, shells, etc.

Here’s a video that shows the inside: https://youtu.be/AHIBkkymvvQ

That looks nice! When I started the video I was thinking it looks just like my Menard’s Bucket Boss brand bag I use, but this Mud River bag has endless pockets and it looks perfect especially for a trip where you want one place for everything small and large for your dogs and shotguns.
