wonder which route they took? take 2 across the southern u.p.? or 28 through Marquette and Munising? and then across the mighty Mac. or did they go down and around? Lots of snow in da u.p. The straights were probably locked up good too.

Jake and I crossed the Mac bridge on the way over and on the return trip. PJ and Dave went the southern route through Chicago on the way over and lost a bunch of time in traffic so they came back using the northern route on their way home.
The straights were locked up pretty good minus some isolated pockets of open water.
we catch those same fish all year. you should consider doing an open water show in june.

There’s three bites we’re going to be keep an eye on that would get us to run back to Saginaw Bay.
A LATE ice sight fishing walleye bite. Huge schools pile up under the ice as it falls apart. I have some friends that have done this the last couple years. If you’ve ever right fished gills or crappie in shallow, clear water…same thing, just big walleye. You need a hovercraft or airboat to really get on it good. Hey Koonce, you listening?
Ice out Lakers. Ice goes out. Big Lakers cruise the shallows crunching #7 rippin raps. Lots of 15-20# fish casting spinning gear.
Pre spawn walleye. Same bite as Green Bay.
Lord willing and the river don’t rise we should able to time one of them right.

Count Me In !!!
Fantastic show! Can you recommend any fishermen friendly lodging around the saginaw bay? Probably headed over next week.
We stayed at the AmericInn in Bay City and it was a good motel.. Just like any other AmericInn I have stayed at…
I would book there again if I was going….. And Uno’s is a GREAT place to grab a bite to eat !! It is just over the bridge from the motel…
Good Luck and Have Fun !!!
Awesome show, guys! I also like when you show the bite on the flasher, too. That’s cool.
I wish someone would have measured PJ’s fish. Wow, what a hog! Great job, PJ.
Question, if any of you mind answering…
Where did you guys launch out of for the show, and how were the cracks if there were any you had to cross? Group of us heading over that way for the weekend and we keep getting reports of cracks opening up 6′ or more out of Linwood and state park. We were planning to bring a SxS, but not if the cracks are that bad. We don’t mind going out of the east side of there are less/smaller cracks to deal with.
Thanks
Joey, conditions are horrible right now for anything that isn’t tracked. This last storm we got dumped rain, ice, sleet and then 8-12” of snow on the bay. Add two days of 30-40 mph winds and it’s a bit messy. Lots of slush out there. I’m pretty certain they launched somewhere on the east side of the bay. As far as cracks and shoves, the west side (Linwood) is notorious for that. The East side has its share of cracks as well.If your only option is a SXS, my advice would be launch on the east side. Stay on the beaten trail…ramps and a winch are a must. We are supposed to get a little rain tmrw night and then pretty cold going into the weekend. Let’s hope it firms up a bit.
