Next year I’m dedicating 4-5 days to dig into that bite deeper. That’s the most fun I’ve had in a long minute.

We fish lake trout this same way on the shallow rock reefs on our spring trip to Manitoba. Often they follow the rattle bait back to the boat, often you can just Yo Yo the bait below you and watch them hit the bait. They only stay on these rocky reefs for a short time after ice out. That’s why I like to time our trip as close as possible to the ice out. Once that water starts to warm up those fish all head deep. We mainly fish for BIG pike but its often fun to take a break from the pike and catch a few lakers.
