Getting out of hand

I don’t know about you guys but I worked from home for more than a year straight and currently work from home Mondays and Fridays. I know not everyone has the opportunity to do this but many do nowadays. The price of gas could go to $6 a gallon and I would still spend less than I spent 2 years ago. Not saying I enjoy the higher prices just saying higher prices don’t always mean higher expense… carry on

Yes thats exactly what they mean. When every single thing inflates it means more expense 😆. Is that serious?

This is the problem for all people. Weather you work from home or commute. Higher fuel cost will get you even if you don’t consume fuel. The bigger problem we should be talking about is how beer has gone up $2 a case in the last 3 years.

I was just replying to you saying higher prices doesn’t mean higher expense. I was just letting you know that’s incorrect. Complaing does no good, I agree. But we all still do it. You are no different.

I am not trying to team up on you Carppie and value your input. I work less then 5 miles from my home. The added fuel cost doesn’t affect my bottom earning line like it did when I worked 44 miles one way to work or when I used to put on 45K to 66K miles a year for work. But this is a big problem for others I know who have to commute for work. It sucks when you have to refigure your budget because gas went up. I agree it does nothing to grumble about here other than feeling better for getting it out.

I get it. lots of things have changed for the worse in the last 2 years including prices on gas and other products and it sucks. but some of the results have also saved people money like more remote work. I understand working remote comes with other disadvantages too , like impact to businesses that rely on commuters money as well as less social interaction. I also understand increase in gas prices effects things like shipping costs which in turn effects prices on other goods ect ect ect…. its not just about what you pay at the pump…. Was just trying to interject a positive perspective on things rather than just add more barf to the barf pile.

Working from home is NOT a positive. I have been doing it for 2 years and it absolutely sucks. I dont see any of my coworkers. No social interaction with people I have worked with for over 20 years and formed tremendous relationships. I only see a profile pic on my Teams meetings when we chat. My only social interaction is the daily meet at the local bar to watch Jeopardy with my old curmudgeon locals.

I hated working from home when it all started but now I’m a huge fan of it. I use to commute from Hudson to Minneapolis so that was a bit of a pain. Yes I miss the interaction with my coworkers but I get way more done working at home than I do in the office. I drive a F150 and I know not a great commuter vehicle but I save a ton of money in gas and wear and tear on my truck. I also dont have to go into that city which is a huge plus in my eyes.

Back to the topic when I do have to fill up on gas it sure hurts the pocket book. It sucks but nothing is going to change I feel anytime soon.

I hate the weekly fill up in my truck of $120 in diesel fuel. SUCKS! Thought about buying a commuter car just for driving around, but then it’s another payment I don’t want and insurance. So I just go on with my day and fill that thing up lol.

Not looking forwards to tournament season when I have to fill the boat and truck up…

For those that drive a lot there is an app that will give you cash back for all the gas you buy. Its called getupside. I think you have to go to specific stations because I installed it, but none of them were near me so I uninstalled it.
Check into it because it could save you some serious money. Otherwise its always good to use a card that pays back rewards. I use my Cabelas card and get all sorts of rewards with various purchases. Doesnt cover the increase in cost, but its a nice side benefit.

With non-oxy well over $4 for the Spring and Summer…some of the all day tritoon cruises are going to be reevaluated or those piling on-board may have to chip in. That thing can burn up $100 bills pretty quick at the expected prices. I used to just say “where do you want to head” and would blindly run all over Pool 4 picking up family, friends, hitting up restaurants or favorite islands, etc. Now if they want the full Uber experience on water, it may cost them (at least beer) toast

So my brother works construction. Last time gas prices were this high he saved money by buying and insure a Chevy Aveo. It saved him over $150 a month over the cost of diesel. He gutted the interior, removed all seats, beefed up the suspension, and filled it with tools and added a latter rack for the scaffolding. I laughed so hard when I saw that car going down the road. You could not miss the black Aveo with bright yellow scaffolding hanging over all sides of it. rotflol

Oh such fond memories. 7 hour drive, hotel, pre fish a day – burn 30 plus gallons in boat, hotel, refill pre fish different area – another 25 gallons burned , drive home 7 hours….return 4 weeks later – 7 hours driving, hotel, pre fish day 1 burn 30 gallons, hotel, ( repeat 3 day tournament) drive home 7 hours

Go to bank and cash check from winnings – net loss ($ 980.00) dam I ❤️ tournaments. Thank God we had awesome sponsorships back then.

Competitive fishing is going to be an expensive hobby this season if there is no change.

Luckily my 4-stroke outboard sips fuel so that doesn’t hurt much. Its the truck hauling the boat TO the lake and back that hurts. Wish my truck got the kind of mileage my outboard did.

Youre not driving the boat nearly the miles your truck is being driven. I guarantee you your truck is getting better MPG than the outboard. Most are around 4MPG

Good point. It probably takes a lot less power/energy to move a boat on the water than it does to move a truck on the road though too. Plus the fact that I’m actually towing the boat/trailer too which just adds more weight.

In a way this could work out good for me. I’ve been looking for a different house. When people can’t make there house payment because they put the money in their gas tank, there will be more houses to look at.

I don’t know….I drive a Tundra so the 4 MPG of my outboard might win lol

Bucky you may have to start jigging on P4 this year. those days pulling cranks all over the lake are gonna hurt! one positive if the prices keep rising is there should be less tuna boats out there this year.

my boat is still topped off with treated non oxy ready to roll come April. Probably will need to refill one or two more times through June then chill until October and fish until the freeze. so i spend $500 in gas for my boat….meh.
i did go with the green energy with my strikelite this winter and my leafblower for summer. i use my gas hog weed wacker about 12 times a year and my rider has been getting regular 87 for 12 years without any problems. there hasn’t been this much opportunity for advancement in the workplace since EVER. places are hiring like no other time that i have ever seen. prove your worth and make a better life for yourself and your family if you feel you are worth it!

If 1 gets a way better job then does gas go down? Or was that some random thoughts you threw out? I do really good for my self and family, especially for no college education.
But fuel is still pretty spendy. My work truck can eat 150 bucks a day. That hurts every one but crappie

mostly random but if gas prices are going to prevent you from doing the things you normally do when they are higher maybe you need to adjust instead of crying about it. Not directed at you but painting with a broader brush. they go up, they go down. nobody likes it but life isn’t fair. maybe some are stuck in a dead end job and all the inflation will prevent them from doing the things they want to do. i do very well for myself and also zero college but have been throwing around the idea of applying for jobs i have no business applying for just to see what happens. got to keep adjusting to the times or you are left with nothing but complaints.

Different topic but cabellas card is one of the worst reward programs out there. 1 percent back is not a good rewards program.
    Much better rewards programs available.
Heck even Scheels is 1.5 and that ain’t that great.

Back on topic. Gas prices suck, Covid sucks, Democrats suck, Republicans suck, Restrictions suck protest suck.
    Did I miss anything?
