I’m starting to think about it! Just made my first reservation in Grouse country. Second weekend in Voyager Nat Pk.
First weekend in sconny per recent tradition.

I had one flush two weekends ago. I’m optimistic on numbers this year. Last year exceeded my expectations.

There’s still grouse to hunt in Minnesota ? Have not attemped to even hunt them is 5 years or so. I miss the glory days of Grouse hunting. Sure wish they would return to even 1/2 the #’s of those days.

I’m not much of a grouse hunter but thought I would give it a fairer shot this year so I’ll be near Isabella the second weekend. Don’t know where I’m going exactly but it looks like there are plenty of forest service roads to choose from!

I will be hopefully flushing some grouse out of superior national forest on opener!

I believe MN Grouse opener is the 19th. Is it earlier in WI?

I’ll definitely be after them Saturday AM in Sawyer County, WI. Just hope, if I see ’em, that I can hit ’em. My buddy’s French Brittany, Stella, is the only one more excited than I am.

This whole conversation makes me vaguely uncomfortable, for some reason.

Numbers have been great in our area can’t wait to get out. Mix bag of hunting duck opener and a few walks for Grouse .

Yea Sharon. I am referring to Wisconsin. I am embarrassed to say this came as a shock to me because I assumed MN was the same as Wi like it usually is and I had a major trip booked next week. Working on moving reservations around now. What a mess. Thanks for bringing it up Sharon!! I appreciate it.

I wont shoot any red Grouse this weekend. I may slip the safety when you flush but I wont point at you!!! LOL

Just curious what your favorite grouse gun/gauge is? I’ll once again be carrying my trusty Remington .870 Wingmaster, 12 ga.

I love using my remington sportsmen 58. It has the shorter 26inch barrel and is auto which helps out. Got it from a dealer for a steal it sat in a safe its whole life and was oiled right when put away.

No problemo! I wish MN started earlier!

I used my Mossberg 20ga for many years until my husband Billy bought me a Browning BPS 12ga for our wedding anniversary a couple years ago. I honestly haven’t used my 20ga since! I seem to shoot better with my 12ga than I did with my 20ga and I’m very happy with it. It’s taken me a while to get used to the bottom ejection. I was used to side ejection. But I believe the added weight and length have improved my shot, though we did have to cut the stock down just a bit.

I’ve been using the same Rem 1100 20ga light for 20+ years. I dont even bother changing chokes. The improved cylinder with Rem Express loads in 7.5 have been the perfect recipe for me that whole time.
As most of you know my backup gun will be my new 12ga Franchi!!!
It’s now designated as official backup gun for everyone on our trips!
My backup used to be my old 12ga 870 but that gun will be getting a well deserved rest this season.

One more nights sleep then I get to creep through the cool dark morning woods. Going to be perfect opener weather. No dog and no partner on opener. Just me and the woods. I cant wait. Hope I get a couple so we can have a meal!
I’ll be leaving early to post out my first spot. Then just waiting for enough light to hunt.

^^That sounds awesome. There’s something to be said about spending time alone in the woods. It’s a peace like no other and it’s so good for the soul, spirit, or whatever you want to call it.

In just a few weekends I’ll be out in the woods with my husband and my GSP. I absolutely can’t wait. I love this time of year! laugh

I’ll probably take my pointer out for a hunt on Sunday morning. We’ll see.
While I cant imagine hunting pheasants without a dog I am the exact opposite when it comes to Grouse hunting.
