The jet ski thing is more gray in my opinion. It’s not a fishing vessel and never will be. Hauling a fishing boat is part of fishing, whereas hauling a jet ski or wake boat is definitely not.

Jet ski sure is outside recreation though. No one ever said you have to go fishing to be outside. Most here just associate the two along with me.
wkwPosts: 741April 9, 2020 at 5:36 pm #1932437And nobody said you can’t haul “cargo” from Point A to Point B. As in jet ski to the cabin. Everybody needs to go about life as normal, with the precautions suggested, but I don’t think a cop is gonna stop you for going down the road pulling anything.

There’s been more crying and whining about not being able to exercise a PRIVILEGE.
Wished as many complained about RIGHTS being taken away!SylvanboatPosts: 1008April 9, 2020 at 6:41 pm #1932464I live in Illinois. People ignored the “spirit” of stay at home and our gov and Chgo mayor tightened the screws.

Some consider golf as outdoor recreation too but that is currently prohibited. Fishing and hunting are specifically listed. No every form of outdoor recreation is permitted, only the ones listed are. Nowhere on there does it say that jet skiing is a permitted form of outdoor recreation.

Golf is permitted, golf courses are closed for right now, get creative. You seriously think the only legal way to be on the water is if you’re fishing?

If you see another fisherman at the ramp avoid walking up to him and giving him a hug or a kiss. That’s what I said a long time ago! You are not going to pass it on by looking at someone, just don’t go kissing them

So if you can’t golf on a course where do you golf? A mini putt? I don’t think the average golfer (myself being one) is gonna head out to the local park and start launching balls wherever they please. Where else do golfers golf other than a golf course or driving range, both of which are closed?
Bob ErfishPosts: 77April 9, 2020 at 10:52 pm #1932548Go get the boat. Fill up close to home, pack a lunch if it’s far away, no need to interact with anybody, but you do need your boat

Your choice not to go to a park. Nobody stopping you yet.
April 10, 2020 at 11:03 am #1932657Me and the kids drove around and looked for turkeys last night should I be in jail? No one said you cant drive. Get your damn boat. If you that concerned about it DONT. It is not illegal to drive. I don’t think theres a rule that says fishing is only allowed for people who store their boat at their own house.
April 10, 2020 at 11:55 am #1932682I called the place that stores my boat. They said they are operating but they have restrictions in place that they normally don’t. They aren’t allowing anyone in their office and they have set up a “ticket window” when you pick up your boat. This is an example of a business not deemed “essential” but is able to operate while still abiding by the new guidelines.

Same for the place I store my boat. Basically I have to call them before I arrive and they will give me instructions in where to get my boat
Tom AnastasiPosts: 64April 10, 2020 at 4:58 pm #1932765Mother in law showed me an article in the Trib here in MN- said that driving for ‘pleasure’ it’s still allowed.
Not sure what gives y’all pleasure, but that kinda leaves the door wide open?
Just don’t have 5 people in your car!April 10, 2020 at 9:58 pm #1932857Just don’t have 5 people in your car!
FYI: If the 5 are from your household you’re all good though.
toddrunPosts: 513April 11, 2020 at 9:26 am #1932903Well, I went and got the boat yesterday. I coincidentally fueled up next to a highway patrol, so I asked him. He said the same thing as others have posted, there are no rules against driving around MN, pulling a boat, PWC or other. Just use social distancing when around other people. WI is different, out of state vehicles can get stopped, ticketed and jailed in some cases. Basically for him, he had very little concern for people driving around, it is social distancing while in a vehicle. He just told me to be safe, stay healthy and enjoy the boat.
April 11, 2020 at 9:27 am #1932904While I was a little looser on this in past weeks, I have been really trying to stay in my area to fish AND avoid crowded launches. I have only been fishing by myself also, which I don’t mind. Michigan just added a “no motorboat” clause to their stay at home order yesterday because the launches were packed. If we want to keep fishing we need to be smart and have some situational awareness or the same thing will happen here. Be smart. Enjoy fishing, but don’t do something stupid to ruin the fact we still can fish.
April 11, 2020 at 2:27 pm #1932964So driving to wi to get my boat sounds very risky. I can do it without any human contact but sound like I could get busted. I was ready to do it but now it sounds like a bad idea. Wtf

Just make sure no aquatic hitchhikers, and drain plugs out.
I wouldn’t sweat it.
April 11, 2020 at 3:43 pm #1932971If going, go under the cover of darkness. I suggest a black suit, camo painted face and a watchmans cap. If you have a tactical Kevlar helmet with NVDs (Night Vision Device) and a tactical vest with molle webbing to attach a Med kit, all the better. Keep your police scanner on too.
Seriously, and those traveling to WI too, you are not going to get pulled over if you have out of state plates. I travel from WI to MN & MN to WI nearly every day (my work is essential). There are no check points, traps etc. my vehicle has MN Plates too. Yes, I have a letter from my employer if I get pulled over but I don’t see that happening. It’s not because I haven’t had close encounter with police meaning if I had expired tabs or a light out or something I would have been pulled over.
Go fishing people. Take the boat out and get it ready for the season.
April 11, 2020 at 6:52 pm #1932996I put 500 miles on today. Took a drive up to check on my camper after the winter. Get North of Virginia and there is almost nobody moving around. In the towns people are still doing what they do. Only enforcement I saw was a highway patrol had a group of guys 4 wheeling stopped. I think they were bunched up to close at the intersection. I don’t know if citations were issued or they were talking.
I met 2 highway patrol and 1 county guy, neither paid me any attention but I was alone in the truck also.
From Orr to Jims on highway 53 I saw 12 vehicles including 4 semi’s. Kinda erie it’s so quiet.
April 11, 2020 at 9:44 pm #1933048I’d have no problems driving up to a cabin or camper… I’ve already been up to mine.
Also think about this … about half (or more) of RV dealerships are still open for business. I might go look at one this coming week
April 11, 2020 at 11:46 pm #1933062I just hope that you clowns with 4 people in a boat do not ruin it for the guys like me who go solo or with my dog. I would like to see a law with no more than 2 in a boat and have it be policed! would be nice to have some DNR hand out some fines for all the morons who cannot follow no wake zones too.

So I can’t take my wife and three kids fishing now?
What’s with using words like moron and clowns… do you expect anyone to take you seriously? Maybe see a therapist for your anger issues? I wish you luck man.

You are being sensible. WI “cabin counties” have been very clear they don’t want cabin owners showing up, so going up there with MN plates… Might as well put a giant sign in you back window that says MN Tourist. Bust me.
Plus, looking at the forecast…
