I have two virtually new, lightly used (twice in a boat to Voyagers National Park) Duluth Canoe Packs I’d like to get out of my basement. One is the Monarch 3, the other is the Camp Kitchen pack. Both sell for nearly $600 new, but I’ll let these go for $450 ea. They are in perfect working condition … might have a bit of dust or discoloration from sitting idle for 5 or so years, but no wear, broken parts or holes. Includes all parts (straps, liners, etc.) Check the Duluth Pack website for detailed info on these packs. They come with a lifetime guarantee!

Photos are from the duluth pack website, but I can send photos of actual packs for sale, if requested.

    Located in Grand Rapids, MN.

PM me for more details or photos.

I also own two of these packs. I have had mine for over 30 years and they have 100’s of miles in my canoe. Great packs!! They never wear out. This is a good deal for someone.

    Kevin,
    What are the dimensions?
I see the outsides have pockets, is the main inside one area or is it divided up?

The monarch has some pockets sewn into the sides, but they allow use of the entire pack as a single section for large objects.

The monarch description (per Duluth Pack):

Ultra burly 15-ounce canvas construction with removable waist belt.
Clip-on sternum strap to help alleviate shifting of shoulder straps.
Soft padded leather shoulder straps riveted for extra reinforcement.
Large main compartment with three built in slash pockets and one deep tarp/sleeping pad sleeve to help cushion your back.
Side pockets provide quick access to everyday necessities.
Rides low to allow the carrying of a canoe while also wearing the pack.
Each pack comes with a heavy duty 6ml poly liner and a tumpline.
Guaranteed for life. Made in the USA.

We begin with our sturdy 15-ounce canvas, add quality roller buckles and then premium leather straps, sewn and reinforced with rivets. To our tough leather shoulder straps we added foam padding and covered the foam with soft glove leather. A clip-on sternum strap keeps shoulder straps from shifting, and an adjustable (and removable) hip belt further stabilizes the load and helps distribute the weight. The large side-release buckle closure on the waist belt makes getting in and out of the pack a breeze . In addition, we also added side straps for load compression and stabilization, side pockets, three slash pockets on the inside front and a deep inside pack pocket to hold a tarp or sleeping pad to cushion your back. Comes with a replaceable heavy-duty poly liner.

    Dimensions: 23H x 21W x 6D +pockets
    Capacity: 5,780 cubic inches : 94.71L
Construction: 15 oz canvas, box pack design, double sewn side seams, leather reinforcements for all rivets and high stress seams, padded leather shoulder straps, includes M-215 poly liner, compatible with 20” basket.

    The Camp kitchen:

Ultra burly 15-ounce canvas construction with double bottom.
Rugged leather shoulder straps riveted for extra reinforcement.
Extra large side pockets provide extra space for all of those bulky kitchen items.
Detachable utensil roll with lots of pockets and elasticized storage areas.
Rides low to allow the carrying of a canoe while wearing the pack.
Comes with a heavy duty 6ml poly liner and a tumpline.
Guaranteed for life. Made in the USA.

Imagine room for your food with space left over for a cook kit, stove, fuel bottle, and even a special place for utensils. This pack is your kitchen in the woods. We started with a Standard Food Pack and added large pockets and a detachable, multi-pocketed, elasticized storage area for utensils. Comes complete with its own snap-closing protective cover. The top flap has a zippered pocket for items you want handy yet secured. You will only need to hang one pack to thwart marauding bears because all of your food is stored in one convenient place. The Camp Kitchen canoe pack is built with the same materials and heavy-duty reinforcement as our Standard Food Pack.

    Dimensions: 19H x 17W x 12D
    Capacity: 5,470 cubic inches : 89.63L
Construction: 15 oz canvas, box pack design, double bottom, double sewn side seams, leather reinforcement for all rivets and high stress seams, leather shoulder straps, zippered side pockets, zippered pocket under flap, high quality roller buckles, includes M-218 poly liner, compatible with 20” basket

Wow. $600 each when new. And I thought Yeti coolers were expensive. It doesn’t seem to me that water-absorbing canvas and leather would be the ideal materials for backcountry canoeing.

Back when invented it was about how much they could carry and more importantly how long they would last. Todays nylon have made these canvas bags more of a niche’ product I think. I have one thats very old and still holding up well.

If you do a lot of packing these are a must have if you want something that will outlast you.

I have two very similar ones that are over 60 years old and well used and still in perfect working order. You get what you pay for. Mine have been hauled into the BWCA winter and summer and on may house boat, camping and fly ins. Tough to beat. Worth every penny if you use them.

As mentioned above, there are advantages to them. Another advantage is that when they are properly packed with a poly bag, they float and are totally waterproof. Can’t say that for a nylon shell backpack. I have a Monarch Duluth Pack and can say it is even very comfortable.

I will probably never part with mine. Even if I end up dead broke some day.

Looks like the Monarch 3 is sold, but still have the Camp Kitchen pack available.
