I’m looking to rent a generator for a couple of nights in early December. I thought about buying one but the only other need we’ve had for one is the giant one we use around the buildings here for outages.

Does anyone know of places that rent them for sleepers near URL? I wouldn’t need one, but a couple of the city slickers joining think it’s necessity for charging things and whatnot.

Charging things? A couple portable lithium battery packs would do the same thing. Search for charging pack on Amazon and you will be overwhelmed with choices.

It would be nice to have one for charging your fish finders. The small portable battery packs do work good for charging small things like cell phones. I have one and I can charge my phone 3-4 times on one charge of the battery pack.

Pawn shop my man, or Craigslist. I picked up a brand new never used Generac for a hundres bucks. I gave that one to my brother, and picked up another one slightly used for a hundred bucks. It’s starts on the first pull every time, isn’t as quiet as a Honda, but it isn’t that much louder than a Honda either. You get what you pay for. In this case I’d say I got a lot more than what I paid for. Not every situation requires dropping bank on a Honda. Rest assured, there are other brands of generators that do work and make a competitive product. Have everyone throw in $25 and then draw straws or something to see who gets to keep it after the trip. You’re going on an ice fishing trip so I’m assuming all your boys can swing a Jackson+Lincoln. It’ll be less of a hassle than renting one and probably less expensive too. Plus you get to keep it.

Odds are you and/or your buddies have deep cycle batteries around. Buy a small inverter. Total investment $50 or less and uses what you already have.

If laptops/tables then maybe a pure sine wave, https://www.amazon.com/BESTEK-Inverter-Adapter-Converter-Charging/dp/B082MDRC64/ref=sr_1_3_sspa?crid=1EDXYU9COM9FJ&dchild=1&keywords=400w+inverter+12v+to+110v&qid=1603468009&sprefix=400w+invert%2Caps%2C195&sr=8-3-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUFLVzFFQjNCOTcyNEwmZW5jcnlwdGVkSWQ9QTAzNjM4MjMyT1A5WUdSUDhUOFFJJmVuY3J5cHRlZEFkSWQ9QTAyNzA4NzgxRDhBM1JHQzBOM1NNJndpZGdldE5hbWU9c3BfYXRmJmFjdGlvbj1jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ==

Non pure sine wave is a little less money. I got a 400w one for a URL trip, worked great. Comes in handy other times of the year as well. Look for connection options = cigarrette ligher or battery clamps

Another idea is a little inverter that runs off of your truck battery. Fill the truck up before you leave and run it a few hours while charging and you will have the power needed. As a side note, these work awesome as temporary backup for your home if the power goes out and you don’t have a big generator. I used mine just a few weeks ago to power our cell booster and router so that we could have comms while the power was out.

Most places that have sleepers usually have generators with them included in the price or at least available. Ask the place you’re renting from.

Depending on location I have a generator that I would rent to you. But you would have to come to me and return it to me.

    I have a Generac 2200. I love it.

I’ll do some Craigslist/FB/Pawnshop cruising the next couple weeks. There are far worse tools to own than one of these small efficient generators. For those who offered to lend one, it’s greatly appreciated.

If you really, really HAVE to have AC power get an inverter and run it off a deep cycle battery. Be aware that some sensitive electronics won’t run off of some modified sine wave inverters. Which happen to be the cheapest inverter option available. A pure sine wave inverter will run everything, but the price is almost double the MSW in most cases.

For just DC needs like charging phones and devices, I use my jump start pack from Harbor Freight.

This jump pack keeps phones and iPads charged on week long trips to the Canadian arctic. We went 7 days charging iPads and phones every day with this pack.

And a jump starter pack is a damn handy thing to have anyway. I never regret spending money on tools, I’ve used this pack several times for jump starting or in a pinch a boat will outright run off of the pack alone.

There’s a reason Honda’s cost $1000 and generac cost $579( best price I’ve seen on sale today at Northern) you get what you pay for. When it’s -15 below you’ll know the difference.
If you can find a decent working used small size generator for under $400-good luck
But I’ve never seen one that cheap. As far as getting one for $100- that’s laughable unless your buying it from the thief that just stole it!

I just picked up a new Honda eu2200i, it’s really nice and quite, has Bluetooth so you can shut it off from inside shack or camper. I just used it on a week long camping trip out west. Ran off generator most of the trip, I like how small it is and light!the Bluetooth shut off is nice so you can watch a movie and then shut it off with out going outside. Has a Honda app that tracks hours, you can see load the on the generator. It’s pretty neat. It’s not the cheapest. We have a couple at work and they are tough as nails, we’ll run them over night plugged into electric ground thaw blankets, can’t seem to kill them.

Disagree. I have a Honda 2200 and a wen. Both great units. The wen i would buy in a heart beat again. Half the cost of the honda and I’ve been running it 4 years now. -30 is the coldest I used it. Performed flawlessly. The honda is also amazing.
