I’m glad the older generation didn’t have access to making videos when I was younger.

In her defense, I would be creeped out by an interview with C Everett Coop in his personal basement
Other than that, it’s painfully accurate
CharlesPosts: 1979December 13, 2017 at 10:34 am #1735251Ehh I see that as a Late Gen Y or Gen Z. I see the generation of the early 90’s fitting this category better.
Cause Gen Y here, working 50 hours a week and remodeling a house, and raising a family I don’t fit that category lol
December 13, 2017 at 11:02 am #1735264Oh the old generational differences. The next generation is always the one that is sending us straight to hell. I hope when im old and crusty I don’t fall into that way of thinking but who knows….I probably will. Looking back 20 years ago I can tell you I certainly didn’t see myself being the person I am now. Funny video though
December 13, 2017 at 11:04 am #1735265Funny video because of more than a few grains of truth in there.
But with that said, in defense of the Y’s and Z’s out there, I’d say they have their moments. The developers that I work with are all Gen Y and they have an amazing capacity to learn quickly and then expand and apply that knowledge within hours. Since they never knew a “slow change” world, this does not phase them.
I do, however, find their capacity for multi-tasking to be incredibly annoying. In the Dev Bullpen there is music playing on the Jawbone, the big screens are playing YouTube videos of a developer conference and some stuff you can train cats to do, somebody is putting together a pizza order and somehow they manage to actually write code.
BTW, I have had to resuscitate several Gen Y’ers after I tapped them on the shoulder and scared them into cardiac arrest because they had headphones on and didn’t hear me approach or say thier name.

Heh eh eh…I hope I’m around…
December 13, 2017 at 12:43 pm #1735306Im hoping the recent generations dont take things away from me.
December 13, 2017 at 12:43 pm #1735308The word entitlement comes to mind after watching that. Unfortunately I see it being true for every generation out there not just thurs most recent.
These children are a product of the whole entitlement culture that’s plagued this country for the last several decades.
December 13, 2017 at 1:06 pm #1735335Being a 27 year old, it is what it is…. Often times at work or work related things I feel embarrassed if people find out my age and almost assume that I and all others of us in our 20s are like the video or stereotyped as the “Gen Y.”
While there are certainly far too many Gen Y people that ruin it for the others, there are still a lot of good, common sensed, hard workers out there too.
In my previous job I employed about 40-50 high school and college aged kids for seasonal work, and I will definitely say that that age has a few that remind me of the video. Late and unprepared for (easy) interviews, can’t stay off the phone at work, can’t understand that payroll takes a week to process and you’re not paid every single day via cash but rather every other Friday via direct deposit (yes, this has resulted in me “being the reason that they can’t make it to work because I don’t pay them on time to get gas” “or their cell phone getting shutoff for the month”).
December 13, 2017 at 1:26 pm #1735343Yeah!! Who raised these bas-tards??
Sure the heck wasn’t me. I raised two daughters that shattered this modern mold of cookie cutter entitled punk kids. No participation trophies for my girls. They get nothing more than what they earn. But then I’ve been accused of being “too hard” on my kids

Nice FellaPosts: 457December 13, 2017 at 2:15 pm #1735360All I know is my Dad and the rest of the greatest generation had much more colorful labels for the young’ins that came after them. Long haired lazy dope smoking rock and roll protesters comes to mind. And we all turned out alright.

targamanInactiveWilton, WIPosts: 2759nhammInactiveRobbinsdalePosts: 7348December 13, 2017 at 5:38 pm #1735426In the words of Sathington Willoughby (brought to you by Primus):
“The Problem with the youth today is, because of their inexperience
with the world, they cannot attempt to grasp the ideals, set forth by
myself and those who preceded me.But, as history has shown, they will come around, and embrace our
philosophies and become model citizens in their own right, God bless
this great nation.”December 13, 2017 at 10:34 pm #1735522Hah! Tegg I has something very much like that typed up in my own words earlier this afternoon. I didn’t post it because it was too confusing.
The younger generations are continually being molded on their own accord to the practices that work and that molding eventually ends up being….us.

I am raising my daughter the same way. We get told we are to hard on her by some of her peer’s parents, yet get the ” She is so well behaved and polite; I wish our kids were more like that.”

WinnebagoVikingInactivePosts: 420December 14, 2017 at 10:41 am #1735598I liked morning classes in college, no one was there…That’s about all I have to say about this, as I’m slightly offended. Can someone point me to the nearest safe space or gender neutral bathroom so I can reflect?

If I were to guess the quote was probably Les Claypool’s attempt to mock the generic campaign rhetoric used by older politicians when referencing younger generations. You don’t always get a chance to pull out a Primus reference so I went with it.

Don’t cave!. Your just teaching her how to succeed. We get the honor of seeing daughter #1 graduate from college this Saturday. Highest honors, getting job offers, & making herself proud. My retirement plan in progress!

They both have great jobs and 2 grandchildren make a papa proud……..All this from a guy whose stepmother said I would be in prison by 25…..
