I’m going on a sturgeon trip the weekend of Feb 15th. I was just looking for some tip on what kind of structure to look for, general rigging setups, access points, and for sure ice conditions. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Sturgeons generally like to feed bottom on gravel mud or timber. Put a bunch of crawlers/minnows onto a hook.

Sturgeons can feed like crappies, as I’ve caught plenty thinking it was a tight school of crappies just to find out it’s a sturgeon.

Target current breaks off of land structures works too. They can be found almost anywhere, even in the main river basin too. Most of all, if you’re catching mud puppies, you’re probably in the area to catch a sturgeon.

Since sturgeon feed on all sorts of big and little organisms, they can be anyplace in the “Bayport Basin”. If the flow was a little faster I would say look at the deep side of the breaks, but right now they could be and are scattered.

The reports have been showing it’s pretty slow.

My best advice is move every hour if you haven’t seen anything on your graph if you can.

Bayport was 15″ where I was at, middle of the river in bayport. Talked to some other and they said it was close to 20″ just south of the ice road.
