I have 2 hds 5 gen 1 units.
The older of the two says lake insight on the sd card door, and will not read my lakemaster chip.
I believe it is older because the serial # is smaller and the software version is smaller.
Does anyone have a fix so it will run my lakemaster?
A second question.
Is an older lakemaster chip any better than a newer navionics hotmaps
You can’t run LakeMaster on Lowrance HDS Gen 2 units. The Gen 1 units you could. The easiest way to tell the difference is the text on the card door cover. The HDS Gen 1 was dark blue text, and the Gen 2 was white.
Lake Insight HD was Lowrance’s first attempt at mapping cards (now referred to as C-Maps). They also had built in Insight mapping which wasn’t as good as the Lake Insight HD.
LakeMaster is owned by hummingbird and are for bird units only.
The new Navionics cards when updated are much better in my opinion.
