Gen 1 Garmin Panoptix tranducer use question?

I have a first/second generation forward scanning panoptix transducer mounted on my trolling motor. I’ve found that I would rather use bn it more as a deeper water downscan unit versus shallower water forward scanning… I know they now have a specific downscan transducer that looks exactly the same but has a mount to enable you to adjust it 90 degree straight down. My question is has anybody just tried adjusting their forward scan puck straight down and if so did it work. Assume it might screw with the screen layout… Just wondering…
