Has anyone installed the Gatorbak bunk covers on their boat? Do you like them? How slippery are they, can you still unstrap and back in, or they so slippery the boat would slip off on a steeper ramp? Do you think they are worth it? Thanks

I have them on my big aluminum boat. I float the boat on/off so I can’t tell you if they are slippery. They seem durable and haven’t scuffed my paint at all in 5 years. I’d buy them again.

Love mine, look good but load similar to carpet without the sand getting in the carpet. Dry with in a few minutes of driving away from the landing. i have not found anything not to like. Not sure why you would unhook on a steep ramp so I won’t comment if it is possible.

Just addtional info, I also replaced my carpeted fender boards with 1/4″ HDPE. Carpet free trailer is the way to go, Cant understand why some brand boats/trailers dont already come this way.

The fiberglass Tuffy I have came with them, but ultimately when I replaced the bunk boards I opted for carpet. This was partly because I lengthened the boards by 4” on the bunks, and I didn’t see any significant improvement with them so surely wasn’t buying a longer set. I have heard the argument about sand in carpet, but don’t really see it accumulating. I also store in a heated garage year round so freezing real hard to the carpet and tearing with winter launches isn’t an issue. I could see if you do use it in the winter and park outside that’s another factor.

To me they always seemed like an unnecessary add on for how I use my boat. I’m sure there are situations where they are worth it

I’ve considered replacing the bunk carpet with gatorbak more than once. Never have pulled the trigger. Good to hear the positive (and negative) reviews.

There is also another option out there. Ultimate bunk boards which I believe are fully composite. You’d have to completely remove the bunks themselves instead of just the outside protection. My bunks are still in good shape so this doesn’t seem that realistic, yet.

Went with Ultimate Bunk Boards on my trailer and been happy with them. Slick enough but not to slick.
