Gas Tank Venting Issues

My fuel gauge has never been right. Gauge bounces between 1/4 and 3/4 (unless it’s full) It’s been replaced twice and just recently got stranded on water after venting (or lack of) caused all fuel lines to completely collapse. $300 house call for him to unscrew my gas cap. Mechanic said Alumacraft should have a recall regarding this. If a small town mechanic in MO. knows about it already how come ALumacraft hasn’t done anything about it? now starting to think the venting issue has been causing some of the problem. I’ve also been told to try a “reed limit” switch to help with the reading of fuel level. Any thoughts or anyone else with same problems

    Joe,
Does that hull have a removal panel over the gas tank? It sounds like there is a “low spot” in the vent line, that has allowed fuel to sit in, blocking the flow of vent air.

Being a fairly new purchase, what has your dealer done to resolve the problem?

Don’t all gas tank gauges suck?

Flat long tank in bottom of boat, float for the unit is typically in the middle so any fluctuations in boat level is going to make the gauge dramatically dip back and forth. Not sure how that gets fixed.

The floor layout does have a long panel down the center of the boat (assuming that’s the access for the tank).
Cabelas is doing a great job “trying” to support me in every way but Alumacraft is starting to be stubborn because Cabelas doesn’t sell them anymore.
Cheynne (customer service) is a real treat to work with (NOT).
Cabelas sent boat back to manufacturer because one of the stringers broke loose and caused a couple of dimples to protrude out from the inside of the hull (real ugly). So after asking them to put eyes on the paint job BEFORE they shipped it back, it came back with a big clouded smudge where they did the repair. Now they tell me they are no longer doing paint repairs at the manufacturer and have now agreed to pay $5K to have 1/2 of my boat repainted locally. We’ll see how that goes.

A “reed switch type sensor” is one suggestion that should fix a good portion of the problem. I had a 2008 Lowe 175 FM and never had fuel gauge issues but i understand the fuel tank design is different. Just strange how Lowe can put a fuel gauge (system) on a $20k boat that works great and my $50K+ Alumacraft has a gauge that’s completely useless.
