Just bought a 1968 Johnson 6 hp outboard that runs good but I want to replace fuel tank with fresh mix. At one time, I knew every thing but I forgot most of it. primitive

50:1 or one pint to 6 gallons. Had that motor. All of those old Johnsons ran 50:1.

50:1 was the standard for years. Had a boat dealer tell me. You can actually run an older motor on 100:1. But I’ve always aired on the side of safer. Spark plugs are cheap.

I had a few 1986-88 that actually had 100:1 printed on the motor by the hose connection, but I used 50:1. That 1968 owners manual says “50:1 using a Good Outboard Oil or SAE 30”.
