My wife and i are both working at home during this pandemic and will continue to for at least another month due to kids school being closed. I probably haven’t driven more than 100 miles in the last month. Im considering filling the cars and my boat up with gas to take advantage of the low prices but haven’t done so because i don’t want the gas to go bad sitting in the tank. How long will gas stay good for in your car? Im sure it starts breaking down by degree immediately and it will just go down in quality by degrees but im no expert.

Well the gas in there now isn’t getting any better, so go fill up.

I have to start my mother in law’s car tomorrow and drive it a little. Think it has sat for at least a month. First I have to check for squirrels, snakes, lizards and cat under the hood.

If you worried about it going bad then you can add some seafoam or stabil to it. It will be fine untreated for a couple months no problem in a vehicle.

For your car fill it and forget it. For my boat and mower, sno blowers, weed whip, leaf blower, generator, nothing gets ethanol anymore. Zero, zip, nada. I’m tired of that crap gumming everything up.

Anything besides my car and truck gets no ethanol. Makes a big difference in small engines

being a Schaeffers’s dealer I have recently found something that blows all of the other snake oils out of the water.
( okay Grouse, this is the mother of all snake oils ! )

Schaeffers Neutra fuel stabilizer out performs anything in its class, you add to your fuel like anything else, 3 oz.s to five gallons.
you can let the gas sit for three months or more and the engine will start readily like you just shut it off ten minutes before.

something you may want to try if you are not satisfied with what you have used before.

I’ve had snowmobiles sit 2 years with stabil and seafoam with no problem.

I guess I do not see three months as being that long as I have tractors that sit longer6-9 months with out being started and good to go

greig, from what I am seeing there is no comparison.
guys, dont get me wrong, there are many good additives out there when USED AS DIRECTED and there is a lot of garbage out there as well.

I think I will stick with a company that has been around since 1839,one,they dont last that long selling crap, two, the results I have seen with my own eyes not only on my vehicles but others as well.

one of our local drag racers was challenged to use Schaeffers 75W90 full synthetic in the differential of his car and to not change it all season.
after countless 3000 horsepower paces all season they did a complete tear down of the differential.
zero wear on all components, the only change was the oxidation of the oil which was expected, even at that it wasnt worth noting.

I dont doubt you one bit,but tell me the age of the tractor, older ones are less prone to fuel degradation, why??
they are low compression,,would burn 80 octane gas back in the day and,,with such a large swept volume cubic inch wise along with low operating rpms they were not picky on fuel, they would run on cheap wine!!
another thing worth noting is the large jetting in the carburetor, most fuel strainers of the day were 80 mesh, between the two they would pass particles large enough to stamp a part number on.

on newer tractors with aluminum carburetors and more rubber parts used fuel problems started rearing its ugly head.
more horse power out of smaller cubic inch engines with higher compression, more timing advance, smaller jetting also brought forth more fuel related problems.

fuel sitting more than three months not a long time??
fuel today has a shelf life of sixty days max in proper storage, sealed container, dark cool room, etc.
trust me,its going south quicker than you think, just because something will run on it does not mean it is still good.
I have done this for many years now, yes, you can get away with it for a while but eventually you will darken the doorway of a shop somewhere seeking help because ole Nelly aint running like it use to.

I get it,but,I am one who studies something long before I make a bold statement about it,I study the ingredients, factory tests, etc.
go ahead,I have broad enough shoulders to put up with your childish antics

Call me silly but buying cheap gas that makes me add an expensive additive is just idiotic.

For cars, I’ve drained winter gas from the boat and runs just fine in the car.

I remember dumping the chainsaw mix gas can into our old model A John Deere when dad felt like that gas had been around too long for the chainsaw. She just smoked a little more than normal. He to this day only has one tractor new enough he doesn’t have to add lead substitute into the gas for it.

To the OP, since corn fuel became a thing my dad is lucky to go through a tank of fuel a month in the two pickups he has owned, his 1996 is now my little brothers and runs just fine and dad is now in a 2015 Silverado, not a fuel issue in either one ever.

What is interesting is that gas demand is at historical lows. Outlets that were low volume, are even lower and gas in their tanks is aging. I hate to pass them by but Top Tier has from busiest station is best bet for car and boat.
