Gas Fireplace remote stopped working

Heat ‘n Glo ~22 years old. The fireplace works using the switch on the fireplace but the remote control won’t turn the fireplace on/off and the remote’s thermostat doesn’t shut the fireplace off when it gets past the set set point. The batteries are new. I can hear a chirp in the fireplace when I press the “On” button but the solenoid doesn’t open the gas valve.
Any ideas on how to troubleshoot it?

I think some fire places have a switch near the gas valve to turn the remote on and off. Try turning that off and back on.

Google search the brand and model number and you should be able to find a manual.

My parents have a gas fireplace and they had an issue with the remote as well. As Mike says, there was some little trick to fixing it that I only got from finding and reading the manual. I don’t remember what it was exactly but it has to do with the remote reconnecting with the receiver.

Technology. It’s great when it works. Good luck.

Does the fireplace get used a lot? Not sure if this is your problem, but every year I have to purge my gas line for my basement fireplace because it’s across the house from where the gas comes into the basement utility area. Same thing as you – it will chirp but not ignite – so what I have to do is cycle the breaker after each ignition failure (usually 2-3 times) to reset it and eventually the gas gets there and you’re good. At that point we can use it all winter flawlessly, but the first start-up of the year is always a process.

Easy, open the door on the fireplace , you’ll find a receiver box
look for the learn button, insert the end of a ballpoint pen, you may hear a beep, then turn on the remote, this must be done within like 30 seconds,
you’ll hear three beeps. you should be good to go

Wow, I hope that is what his problem is. If so, you need to post more LOL
