From experience, yes. The oddly-shaped open water transducer is hard to keep pointing straight down. The line gets tangled up super easy also. The ice transducer will allow you to get a narrower beam which is better for jigging or a wider beam for searching for fish. Unless you use it once a year of course.
Yeah, I have the striker 4 as a second unit along with my 73 Echomap. Buy the Garmin ducer that is like 70 bucks for it, it is well worth the money. I love the striker 4 that was my first unit.
