Hey guys bought one of these at the end of last year. Havent been able to try on the ice yet but looking forward to this year. Just a couple questions for those that have them:

1.) How long does the standard battery last for (I thought I heard only a few hrs like 4) is that correct?

2.) Anyone use any of these Marcum Lithium batteries, was looking at and thinking maybe the 18AH would work (but not sure if it would)? https://marcumtech.com/product-category/marcum/batteries/

    Thanks

I was getting maybe 5 hours from the original battery and re-charging took a loooong time. Went and bought the amped lithium and shed over 4lbs from the unit, getting 10-12 hours of run time depending on backlight setting, and the recharge time is much shorter. I say a lithium is a ‘must have’ with these units. One thing is giving me pause. Wondering if that Marcum battery would fit in the back of the shuttle??

Geez… I didn’t know AmpedOutdoors now has a 32ah battery that fits in the LVS shuttle! I got the 18ah last year and it works great.

I agree with the prior posts, go with AmpedOutdoors and get the size you can afford (18 vs 32).

Last season I used a 18 volt Milwaukee (12 amp hour) battery and it last me all day. In fact I don’t recall running out of power. Trust me there are PLENTY of folks that use higher voltage for the ease/performance. I use the Milwaukee series for my ice drill and for my livescope.

Are you running the head unit and the black box off the same 12ah Milwaukee battery?

    Jamin,

I run the entire livescope system (display, black box) off of the Milwaukee 18V 12ah battery. I have fished for 12 – 13 hours and it hasn’t gone dead. As I mentioned before, I also drill out my holes with a Milwaukee 18V impact. I’ll carry a 8ah for drilling and keep a 5ah for a spare, just in case the 8ah drill battery or the 12ah battery for the Livescope were to fall short.

Good to know, thanks Mark. I hear about everyone buying these 30+ ah batteries and therefore didn’t think a guy could get a days use out of just one 12ah Milwaukee battery.

Also for anyone not aware Cabelas will price match and beat it by 5% if you are a club member, not a club member then they will just match!

Good to know, thanks! How would one go about getting this price matched for an online order? I don’t have a Cabela’s near me.

Interesting about that Cabelas 5% thing. I’m a silver member and they have never offered me that. I used the live chat the other day and they wouldn’t match it via a web order. Told me I had to call.

So instead today after talking with a friend I just ordered it from DSG and used ActiveJunky to get the additional 1.5% plus the 2% from my cc company. Oh well.

Well, maybe someone will have better luck than me but to Cabela’s CS reps (different calls) told me they could not price match DSG because “it’s below their cost”. So, Cabela’s wouldn’t even do the $699.99 let alone 5% off that and I’m a Silver Club member.

Well, now I’m hoping DSG isn’t a pricing error and my order from yesterday ships.

Well decided to get the amped outdoors 18ah battery as it was about half the cost of the 32ah as well as is spec’d to last 2000 charge cycles vs. the 32ah only having around half that. They also have a 10% off coupon and free shipping going on now as well!

Glad I waited on this. Just ordered one from Reed’s for $599. Free shipping and no tax (I’m out of state). Pre-Black Friday special. They’ll start shipping them Monday after Thanksgiving.

Retailers must hate people like me.

Originally ordered the DSG one for $699.
Returned that one and placed BF pre-order with Reeds for $599
Now placed order with Cabelas. Used active junky, in-store pickup discount, and Cabelas bucks to score this one for $514 now after all said and done.

We’ll see if my Cabelas one gets canceled or if they really let me pick it up tomorrow before cancelling the Reeds pre-order.

For those of you that run the black box and graph off of the drill batteries, what do you set the low voltage alarm at on the head unit so the battery doesn’t completely drain? I have a 18v Ridgid 9ah Octane battery and a 5ah Hyper Li-on battery I plan on using. I’ve seen some differing numbers, and want to make sure I get the longest run time without complete draining the battery and damaging it.

    Thanks

    Brandon,

I’ve been advised to set alarm at 10v by a guy I know and trust that’s been running LS on Milwaukee batteries a couple seasons now. I think I’m going to set mine at 11v to start just to give myself a margin of error. I’ll see how that goes and adjust as necessary.
