Garmin 93sv UHD feedback

Recently picked up a Garmin 93sv UHD during the big sale several retailers were having on this unit. I have zero previous Garmin experience. Looking for people’s opinions on this unit strictly for ice fishing and strictly with a traditional ice fishing transducer (GT-8 or GT-10 – I have the 10). Not interested in Panoptix or Livescope. My wife got me the Livescope system for Christmas but I’m returning it (I know…I’m crazy!). Appreciate any feedback provided on the set up described above. Pro’s/cons, comparison vs top units of other brands (Helix 7, LX-7/MX-7), etc.

Imo if you only want something for ice fishing, you’re better off selling the 93uhd and then buying a good used/new Marcum LX/MX series. The 9” screen is a waste for just a flasher dial/sonar and map screens…I own a Livescope bundle and a Marcum LX-6s, one for stationary fishing, the other to hole hop with…i’d never hole hop with a livescope bundle, too heavy and clunky even with a summit pole.

Thanks, Joe. Not what I was hoping to hear but I appreciate the feedback. I currently have the Garmin, a Marcum LX-7 on lithium shuttle, a Helix Ice G2 GPS, and a new in box Marcum MX-7. Trying to decide which direction I want to go because I clearly have too many electronics. Anyone else have any experience with the 93sv for ice fishing and not for Panoptix/LS?

I hear what Joe is saying and he’s probably right to a degree. The screen is bigger than you need, but with that said the unit should work well. Just this year I got a 73cv plus. It works well. For just using the sonar I haven’t decided if it’s head and shoulders better than my trusty old Marcum Lx7 but I bought it due to the bail mount and ability to pop it on and off my snowmobile or wheeler. It certainly works well and some of the touch screen features are cool/nice. Other times I find myself actually preferring dedicated buttons for zoom, sensitivity, etc.

If you WANT the bigger screen it should work well. If you don’t mind a little extra weight, bulk, and battery consumption the unit should still work well for you.

Target seperation, etc all is very nice on my 73cv with the GT 10 transducer.

Is there any lag with these units running the traditional
    ice-ducers?

The Helix/LX/MX/Garmin LCD screens will always have a little lag(start up, button functions, screen loading) compared to mechanical flashers. However you have the option of mapping with these units. I’ve personally owned a LX7 and Helix 7 and have sold them. I just use my flx28 with my livescope now. All these units are fine for ice fishing, just depends on learning it and getting used to one.

I think he means lag on the current screen when you are jigging. It is minimal and unnoticeable for the most part. Not a concern on my helix or garmin.

Yes, I noticed their was about a second of a lag between jiggin and seeing it on the screen with the livescope. Not an issue for me, I plan on using the unit strictly as a search tool then hop around with LX5. If the traditional garmin ice ducer performs just as good as a helix 7/LX6, I might have to sell off the other sonars.

If there is any jigging lag on my 73cv plus I don’t notice it. If it was there I think you’d have to really pay attention to see it.
