Had our first on water use with the new Garmin units on my demo MX2025. The side image was spectacular and the Panoptics is amazing! While I am very challenged to be the go to electronics guy, it sure was fun to watch technology actually help you fish better and actually catch the fish you see ! So far it appears to be old guy friendly! :]

    Dean,

Are the vertical numbers depth and the horizontal numbers feet away from the boat in each direction?

I’m not familiar with trolling motor mounted transducers and for curiosity sake when you pull the trolling motor and ducer out of the water does the ducer keep running? That ducer must create a lot of heat when running.
Also how is the imaging effected by waves?

My Pan Optics ducer is mounted at the transom not the trolling motor. The bass guys are most likely to mount the panoptics on the bow mount.

I see. Being the ducer is so big how is the drag it creates. I dont know if its true but but from what ive been reading there some issues to the mounting as the ducer flips up after certain speed is reached causing to run out of water and possibly overheating the ducer. Also is there a maximum speed recomended while running the ducer? Ive read 25mph dont know if its true or not.
Hopefully you don’t mind the questions as I’m intrigued by this technoligy and with new tech introduced to the general public glitches seem to pop up, growing pains for anything new.

Im certainly no Garmin expert by any means, but my thought is that I don’t know how useful it would be at higher speeds in the first place. You understand what Panoptix is doing right? Why would it matter if it worked at speeds like that?
I think it is cool as heck and wouldn’t care in the least if it rendered itself completely useless at speeds over 5 MPH because for what I believe its intended purpose is (identifying targets in a specified direction for fishing purposes) I don’t think speeds above that are useful.

I think you guys are thinking there’s a one duecer does all.

    There’s a down and a forward.

In the image above, (Produced from the “Down” duecer) shows on the left side your typical sonar over time. On the right is the real time sonar. Both would work at high speeds. Though i imagine the real time would be a cluttered mess.

Was going to get one this spring but $3,000 in duecers was a little too much to spend at the time.
