I’m looking at building a garage in the spring or next summer. I received a quote for materias, it came in around 21K. If I hire it out what would I expect to pay?

    Dimensions might help

With the current lumber prices I’d estimate it’s an 8’x12′ with 6′ side walls jester

My buddy just had his new garage erected. 32×38 with room-in-attic trusses. Erected, sheeted, sided and roofed……………….$25,000 in labor

    Good one B-Man rotflol

I would try Sussel or Western.

Typically labor would be similar to your material price. Footings instead of a slab on grade cost more but is better in the long run. Don’t forget to figure tubing for in floor heat even if you don’t want it do it.

if you are dead set on having someone come and build it I would buy the stuff right now and tell them you will come by in spring to get them..that way the price is locked in

I think I would wait till they come down in price more personally….

I’m not trying to rain on a parade, but a garage would be the last thing I’d try to put up or purchase materials for right now.

I’d personally avoid buying large quantities of supplies until later next Fall. The global supply chains should be in much better shape for building materials by then with a vaccine that’s more available worldwide. Our local yard still is charging absurd prices as anything from overseas or Canada is impossible to get. They cannot keep OSB available for more than a day or two after a truck.

I have friends in the construction business. New houses, remodele of interior, you name it. They are figuring they will be without work because of the material costs.

Sure am glad I’m not in that trade right now or needing to build.

In Rochester new houses are costing 20-40k more right now with higher material cost. But the funny thing is they just keep going up as fast as they can build them. Crazy in this town.

If I keep it under 1000sq ft I can get by with slab vs footings. Im thinking of 32’d and 30’w.

I know materials are crazy high but I’m hoping they will come down next summer.

I would love to do a pole shed but I’m technically in city limits and they won’t me.

My 34×24 is scheduled to start next week. I did the concrete myself and will do the wiring. So for materials and labor on the structure, I signed a bid at $22,500.
    5/12 trusses with attic storage
    Asphalt shingles
    Vinyl siding
    Soffit and fascia
    1- 9’x8’tall insulated door
    1- 18’8’tall insulated door
    1- 36” insulated service door
    2- windows
    Overhead door openers
    2×4 sidewall 9’ tall
I had $800 in lumber just for my forms for the garage which I’ll use again to pour a new driveway. I figure I’ll have just under $30,000 into it. I live in Cedar Falls Iowa and with my lot size this is as big as I could build per city code. I really don’t have a choice about timing for mine. I had a 70’ oak tree uproot and level my existing detached lol

    Not bad!!

I had my shed quoted… came in at 150k ??? yikes! Granted my proposed project is bigger but I think yours sounds like a deal. Good luck with the build.

My father had his 28 x 36 built in April for $25,000 and that included the cement work but that didn’t include the door openers and those were about $700, the 18 foot door has a direct drive and the 9 foot has a belt drive, he got some sucker to do all the wiring for free

I would consider putting in 10’ wide door instead of the 9’. Most trailers including boat trailer are 8’6” wide and when all done will barely fit with a 9’ door. At least make the header big enough to install a bigger door eventually.

I’m just finishing up building my 20’x24’ with a 16’x 8’ garage door and I’m going to end up around $16,000 when I’m all said and done. I had to have my lot surveyed because I’m close to the lot line and was missing my back corners, hired some earth work, the slab and block done, hired out shingle install. Also paid a friend a little to to do the siding, soffits and facia with me helping him and did the rest with the help of friends and neighbors or by myself. I luckily bought lumber in early June before the big price jump.
