My brother stopped at the lakeville Gander mountain the other day and said they didn’t sell bait anymore. Is this true? And is this all the GM’s?

I don’t think the Gander Mountain in Eau Claire sells bait anymore
shamusInactivePosts: 317January 21, 2017 at 8:04 am #1667321My local GM in SE Wisconsin still sells bait all the way up to large suckers.
January 21, 2017 at 8:08 am #1667323I bought bait in Gander Mountain Lakeville like 2 weeks ago…I’d be shocked if they pulled it all out in one of the busiest times of the year.
January 21, 2017 at 9:09 am #1667337Gander sucks anyway. Go to the Shell gas station on the east side of 5 by Southcross Dr if you want good livebait.

Good to know….I didn’t know they still had bait there.

Yup, and he’s a really nice guy also.
January 21, 2017 at 8:03 pm #1667424About all GM is good for is fancy clothes for hippies to prance around the forest in.
January 21, 2017 at 8:56 pm #1667429I got bait there a couple weeks ago and they said they are not going to re up on their minnows ????. Very well, they just lost whatever little business I still did with them, I like fleet farm more anyways. But lakeville apple valley area is really lacking in enabling a guy to get his hands on some minnows, especially after 6 pm. It would be great if a 24 hour gas station started carrying
January 21, 2017 at 8:56 pm #1667430Screw gander, I’ve been going to the shell since they stopped selling bait the last time to put in that poor excuse for a shooting range.

Ha…yeah! So that is what it is?
Once upon a time, Gander Mountain was not just a player but a fantasy world for outdoors geeks. That was probably 20 years ago?
They did have it going, huge selection of all current goodies. Fishing celebrities hosting clinic’s, seminars!! Times have changed, doesn’t everybody order from Amazon now…
As far as fresh bait, closest little bait shop nearest the lake I’m fishing. Until they’re gone…January 21, 2017 at 10:20 pm #1667447I agree with the direction GM has gone. I was employed at the old burnsville location 16 years ago and being in high school I was and still am crazy about hunting and fishing. I was proud to put on that uniform, but I wouldn’t today. I’m glad to hear that shell gas station sells bait. I remember when the old Sinclair station next to fleet farm used to sell bait, but that’s been gone for 15-20 years. South metro does need a good 24 hour bait shop. Maybe we need to start a south metro bait shop co-op?????
January 22, 2017 at 9:03 pm #1667647I get all my bait at Lehman’s in Anoka I can’t kill the minnows is I tried
January 23, 2017 at 8:11 am #1667700Went into to GM this weekend and the manager said they sold their small tank to the Shell down the road. I’ve been going to the Shell for years for bait but I needed a few spoons so I stopped into GM…Back to FF and Shell now…
January 23, 2017 at 8:21 am #1667706On a slight variation to this topic, I can’t speak for most GM’s but for the one closest to me I wouldn’t recommend at all for firearms unless you’re just looking to window shop. Their firearms area seems pretty low-staffed and thus can’t handle more than about two people with questions. Plus the first gun I bought was a full $100 cheaper somewhere else in town.
January 23, 2017 at 11:07 am #1667785Didn’t this start with GM removing all taxidermy from the walls?

The gun counter in Woodbury is almost always like this. No point even trying to get service and look at anything. I gave up. I realize they cant staff for worst case scenario but when one customer routinely shuts the whole dept down there is an issue.

That’s a good summary of the problems I’ve seen. And part of that is a result of the customer, some want to look and handle a bunch of guns and have instruction and advice given to them the entire way. Nothing wrong with that, buying a new gun is a big deal and requires a lot of diligence, but yeah like you said Gander doesn’t ever seem staffed to be able to help out more than a few at a time and then they’re tied up for a long while.
January 25, 2017 at 5:34 pm #1668635Along the baitshop line, Theres nothing like a good baitshop. The flood of 2008 took out two baitshops here in town and they never reopened. Last year a distant relative opened a baitshop and since then their business has quadrupeled, their even doing a good business during ice season. Racks and racks of lures and jigs and quality reels and poles and good prices. They just put in their second set of cooled bait tanks and sell quite a few different types of bait from rosies to sucker minnows plus two different sizes of minnows. Big box stores just cant do what baitshops can,,,

AUTO_5InactiveMendota Heights, MNPosts: 660January 25, 2017 at 7:33 pm #1668667And as far as I am concerned, fleet farm over gander any day as far as prices and selection. And as for bait, I’m glad I live within 10 minutes of the old Clark station on old cedar and old shakoppee. Decent selection of minnows and worms/waxies. DECENT price. Always prompt to help the bait-seekers, even while busy with usual customers.
January 25, 2017 at 8:11 pm #1668689The Woodbury GM location has got to have abysmal sales numbers. Cabelas, two legit Fleet and Farms and Joes all within spitting distance.

This is also my go-to bait spot. Always have the minnows I’m looking for and the folks are always happy to help.

Mostly stirring the pot…. I just find it hilarious that these people who would never step foot in Gander Mtn… keep going in and come out bitching
January 26, 2017 at 8:54 am #1668814I bought a black rifle at Cabela’s in Woodbury a few months back. It was busy but they were very well staffed to my surprise.
To Big G’s point, the last time I recall being in a GM was over 10 years ago. An older (30’s) floor person asked me if I was finding everything ok as he walked by. He was in the next room before I could answer. That and the two items I was looking for was out of stock.
I would look to Amazon before I would drive to GM.

X2 support this small business. It would be a shame to lose this bait shop. He’s even got a shop dog!
