Rather than hijacking the thread on how good Scheel’s customer service is, I’ll start a thread on the opposite end of the spectrum.

Gander Mtn is headed for bankruptcy and may close all their stores.

MC Sports has already filed and announced closing all their stores.

On the Gander headline… even if they are filing for Bankruptcy, that doesn’t mean stores will close. I’d say this was an article trying to spin as bad of a news story as possible to get attention.

Stores may close? Yet they have no confirmation. No announcement. It is like saying it may snow 20 inches tomorrow. Sure, it could, but we’ll use that big number to get attention even though we have no clue at all.

Your headline on the post should have the same “?” Leaving it off is sort of how assumptions grow.

Time to get some good deals. A purging now and then is good. Might have to make a road trip to Wausau or Eau Claire

I talked with a store manager last week and he told me they’re not closing. It’s more of a re-structuring thing. Guess we’ll just have to wait and see how it all plays out.

    Which one, Gander or MC?

When was the last time that re-structuring meant anything other than closing stores and laying off workers? Re-structuring is synonymous with lay-offs. Management is supposed to tell the workforce that they are not downsizing ahead of the event. They need to keep face to retain employees.

I put the lowest amount of credibility on a store employee’s knowledge of the situation. They are being fed the company line to retain the employees through this.

I doubt it will be the end of GM as the headlines try to sensationalize but I wouldn’t be surprised if there are sales, closings, mergers, and or changes of ownership before the dust settles.

Maybe North Face will finally just buy gander and get rid of the 3% of the store that doesn’t have jackets and sandals in it.

The MC Sports near started carrying guns just about 5 years ago. However, just a couple months ago they transfered the majority of their guns back to their corp headquarters.

The mcsports.com is now redirecting to a going out of business announcement page that lists their store locations.
