Ice hole cover that doesn’t freeze up?

So my friend will be getting ice fishing equipment for his new icehouse. Thinking about what hole covers and sleeves to get.

My friend has the clear plastic covers that worked well last year when it wasn’t too cold.

Reading on here some people said that the clear covers with like 6 holes in them would freeze up the hole.

I am wondering if the Catch Covers that are black and have the honeycombed look will allow more airflow and not freeze over the holes.

Now, if both models freeze over the holes than I’d rather get the clear plastic ones but if people on here are like nope, the black honeycomb ones from Catch Cover won’t freeze your hole than that’s the one he’d want.

    Thoughts and experiences on this?

    Thanks in advance.

The Catch Cover are far superior to the clear ones. I also wish I would have bought white sleeves, they’re under your house and color will have no impact on freezing. When you cut down your hole covers make sure you keep the trimmed off bottoms to stick in your liners if they are off the ice. Lots of factors make holes freeze, banking, air movement, etc. The fact remains that the clear covers don’t allow adequate air flow and will cause more freeze problems than the Catch Cover style, hands down. The clear ones are stronger and nicer looking but the question isn’t strength, it’s freeze problems. Don’t fall for all the hype you see on these sites where people get paid or free stuff to blow smoke at you, including manufactures. Trust the people that have used them.

I use the clear covers with sleeves and have zero problems with freezing. Freezing happens because of poor banking.

^^^ my findings as well. I also have a ceiling fan that forces air downward.

    Thanks!

    I know banking is important.

I don’t want to have to use a fan or a fan on the ground to keep them from freezing up.

I use the clear also on 8 hole and ZERO problems freezing up, unless the houses isn’t banked properly!
