    My $0.02

First, get a second opinion on the furnace. Don’t say a word about what you were told by the other company just tell them that you’re having issues.

Second, I’d definitely look into replacing your AC unit simultaneously if it makes sense. You’re far more likely to do it now at a cheaper rate once you have them there then calling them back in 2 years if it’s on its last legs or is a comparable age.

If you happen to be living in the Hastings, Red Wing, Lake City area shoot me a PM and I have a perfect recommendation for you. If not, I am not much help with recommendations.

I do see some places are offering a new Air conditioner with a New furnace purchase. Might be worth looking in to.

How overpriced is that furnace that it pays for the ” free ” ac

    Mike,
I had to replace my cabin furnace last November. My cabin neighbor/buddy is a Commerical HVAC contractor in the cities. He got it restarted initially but it kept tripping a switch. My furnace was over 21 years old at the time. He convinced me not to bother trying to diagnose and repair a 21 year old furnace. He sent his crew up to replace it 4 days after it quit. He charged me 2800.00 but I think it was a buddy type discount.

I think I’ve had my furnaces repaired about 5 – 6 times now. I don’t think any of the repairs we less than 500.00. Most closer to 800.00. I would not choose to dump 500.00 on a 20 year old furnace. If you replace it, it will be a good selling feature for your house.

After speaking with a couple local companies today they were not surprised by the response I got last night. One family operation came out today and fixed it. They just happened to have the obsolete control board mine needed. I plan to replace anyways but now its not an emergency and I will use this company.

As my dad taught me years ago… nothing is free. Those look like those coupons that come in the mail and usually offer 50% – 75% off of labor too. Amazing how many people bite on these!

Depending on why it was condemned, and how much confidence you have in the person that diagnosed it , I would get a second opinion on that first . If its older with ac of the same vintage , get a quote on it all

X100. One hour is not the most trustworthy in my book. All of the big franchises do a lot of “extra” sales. 2nd opinion is a must

X100000…..I know a couple HVAC guys that quit one hour over the pressure to up sell customers and to convince them they need a replacement when what they have could be fixed. From what I’ve been told they even hold “classes” to train mechanics to be salesmen.
I’d always get AT LEAST 2 places to look at it and would highly recommend NEITHER is One Hour.

I would call Northern heating and air get the 2nd opinion, I don’t work for them.
