How’s the ice up there folks? I have heard 8″, but that big bay hasn’t closed yet…i’m coming up later this week, and hoping to drive out McKinley or Stuntz bay for some fun.

Took a ride over to Mckinley Saturday and saw at least a 100 or so vehicles on the ice plus lots of wheelers and houses. I’ve heard fishing has been decent over that way early & late in the day. Everywhere I drilled a hole last week I found at least 10″ of ice.

10″ inches of ice should turn to over a foot by the time I get there on Thursday…that’s great news….Thanks for the update

Ya T. my nieghbor always catches the big one, I did catch one that was about 2″ shorter and it probably wieghed half as much as that chunk in the picture.

Going back to the shack to ring in the new year hopefully that 30″er will grace my rod.

Last week was a great week for walleyes, caught a bunch of keepers and quite a few in the slot, the biggest was 22 (We should get rid of the slot during the winter months, it’s tough tossing back the 18 & 19 inchers.) This past weekend the walleyes disapeared but the jumbo perch took there place, I mean some real big jumbo’s, they were stuffed full of grey crap, not sure what it was but they were puking it up all over the place.
Going back to the shack this weekend might even look around for some crappie and sunnies with the warmer weather.

Did the little guy get to tussle with that walleye himself or did he need a hand from dad? Cool pic. It looks like your house has been in that spot for awhile based on how packed down the snow is. Ice conditions must be real solid. Did you notice a slow down in the bite this past week once the warm weather settled in? I know things up on Rainy went from hot and heavy to slow as soon as the cold weather moved out.

He had a little help holding the rod up on the big one but he hauls in the little ones like a pro.
I put the house out before Christmas, the ice is really good this year. The bite was non-existent this past weekend, probably the slowest it’s been all season, looks like cold weather is on the horizon so maybe the bite will pick up again.

Are you fishing eyes on Rainy?

Eyes and pike. The bite on the eyes was slow. We did manage some monster pike though, including one fish that was 20# plus.
