Thought I’d make a short note about Vermilion last weekend. Had another weather system move in thurs night and fri, wet and windy. Sat morning WX was breaking up, and Sunday was quite mild but cool. Our club had 10 two person teams for our 2 day tounament. Some members were able to get up there 4 or 5 days early for some extra fishing time and practice. Guys that fished Walleyes could find them but they were on the small side. Largemouth were numerous, but only averaged 14 to 15 inches, with the best LM at 17 inches. Shallow weedy bays, and shorelines with some weeds helped hold LM. Smallies were very few, and were not on any mid-lake humps. One club member did land a fantastic Smallie of 20 1/4 inches from a rocky shoreline casting a crawdad small crankbait.
Bluegill were numerous in the weedy bays, with lots of 8 inchers, and there were 3 or 4 that hit 9 inches. Crappies were not like they were last year, but some very quality Crappies were caught. quite a few 11-12″ers ” were caught, with a handful of 13’s.
Fun weekend, despite the weather, and with the bigger fish eluding us.
The first picture is my partner Mike with our nicest LM which went 17+inches, It hit a tube along a rocky shoreline.
