The walleye bite has been good since the 2013 opener began! I have been hopping around area lakes and having a lot of success with all types of presentations.

Saturday we pulled spinners in 8-10 foot of water and got bit nearly every 5 minutes. The area we were fishing was a flat that was near a river mouth. This was defenatly one of the heavier stringers I have held as every fish was in the 18-21 inch range.

Yesterday I was on a different lake for an hour or2 before lightning struck and chased me off the lake. The time I spent fishi g I cast 1/4 oz jigs or drifted them with a minnow. You had to work the jig to get bit it seemed. I yielded 4 fish but they were smaller so I gave them away to a nice old couple at the boat launch!

Fishing is getting good up here and the post spawn bite will be on soon! Keep watching for more Ely area reports and good fishing to everybody!

Why did you keep fish if you didn’t want them? Not sure I understand that.

    Nice report otherwise.

I kept them thinking I’d be out longer…. Then the lightning hit and plans for the day changed and I didn’t have time to clean fish. The old couple was happy. I was about to toss em back in but thought I’d be a nice guy.

Gotcha. That makes sense. I know others have stated using Google Chrome on the I-Phone works better for posting pics on this site.

I am moving back to Northern MN this fall. I fully intend on logging many hours North of you at our place in Buyck. Moving to Hibbing.

What is in buyck?? Have never heard of it.

Congrats on the move north this fall. I hope it will make you happy as much as it has done for me! We will have to get together sometime for a good ole iron range fishing trip.

Nothing. A golf course/bar and a post office. Buyck is a small township on the Vermillion River.

I am from Grand Rapids. Should have never left.

Buyck is North of Ely up the Echo Trail. Just NE about 10-15 miles from the Northern End of Vermillion (as the crow flies).

I be never been that far up the echo. My friend used to live on east twin lake and I haven’t been much farther.

My mom and step dad fish the vermilion river at gold mine resort every year, but I have still never went with them.

I’m heading up to the boundary waters next weekend and mainly fishing on Dissappointment Lake. DNR Lakefinder makes it look like a decent walleye / pike lake. Any suggestions? Any other lakes nearby you’d recommend?

I wonder if any of those lakes in BWCA that have limited yearly pressure are ever disappointing.
