Ely MN quick report

Just finished cleaning 2 limits of walleyes in the 13-16 inch range from this morning! The bite was pretty fast and furious on chartreuse 1/4 oz. hair jigs. We pitched and vertical jigged in the 12-15 foot range and that worked out pretty well all morning.

Tonight’s trip we are going to focus on large females. This morning we got a few 20″ slot fish but I’m looking for wall whoppers at sunset! Wish us luck and good fishing to all.

Good luck… and thanks for the report. I’ll be headed north in an hour. Joel and I are going to hit the St. Louis River tomorrow assuming the wind and rain is tolerable.

Thanks for the report! I’m heading up to Vermilion on June 8th for a week and never been there before so I’ve been watching for any info I could learn on here but no one ever seems to comment on this lake. Hopefully the bite is as good then as it igoods now for you! Good luck and keep the reports coming! Thanks man!

I know this is the Vermilion forum, but wondering what your thoughts are on Echo lake? I’ll be camping there next weekend, I’ve done basic research of the lake, just haven’t talked to anybody that has fished it before, looks like a nice lake. There are so many great options to fish up there i don’t want to waste my time on one of the lesser lakes in the area.

    Any info is appreciated.
    Thanks

Fished Vermilion tonight, we are a bit lost. Any info from others would be great. We found bigger fish in 10′ of water, but numbers of small fish from 22′-35′ of water.

Our go to even spots where we can fill out in 90 minutes in shallow water were completely dead.
After 4 hours of fishing, we are still looking for a consistant pattern.

    Cam-

I have never fished echo lake or even heard of it. I have some good connections with bait shop owners and locals so I will ask around and try to get an answer for you soon!

As for the vermilion bite that sounds about right. Big fish shallow right now and eaters are out deeper. I’ll be out camping mid-week and will get my first real time on the lake for the year!

I primarily fish the east end of the lake. Living in Ely it’s closer and big bay is so large you couldn’t cover it all in a week!!

Nailed another nice 27″ this morning in 7′, some more eaters in deeper water adjacent to shallow bays. Big Bay still six degrees colder than other parts of the lake.

Thanks for your help, I’ll let you know how it goes.
I am looking forward to fishing a smaller out of the way body of water, than the normal big lakes and busy river I spend most of the season on.
    Thanks again,
    Cam
