Water Clarity

We are back to Vermilion in late May this year (hopefully the ice will be out). We have fished Vermilion for over 30 years and have really seen changes in the water color.

Does anyone know the definitive cause of this? How has it changed your fishing?

I know 15 years ago, we never fished more than 10-15′ of water until summer for walleye. Now, it seems like we are fishing over 20′ of water all day and only shallower in low light conditions. Have other made this change too? If you agree with this approach, do you think it is from the change in water clarity? Explosion of the musky population? Rusty crawfish?

What difference would the Muskie population have on water clarity?

maybe that wasnt clear, I was referring to the pattern change for spring walleye being more of a deep water bite now during the day and what the reasons might be.

Clearly it wasn’t! T he last few openers have been ahead as far as weather that probably plays a pretty big factor.
