Planning your Rainy Lake Trip….Open Water!!

I’ve received a lot of emails and phonecalls as of late in regards to planning open water trips.

It would be wise to get your reservations in at your resorts of choice or with Rainy Lake Houseboats. Some will also choose to simply stay in town at a Hotel/motel. Regardless Rainy Lake welcomes all IDO fisherman this summer!!

May and June has many big Pike and Walleyes will relate to both current areas and shallow water. Crappies can be had in big numbers if the spawning conditions are favorable. Smallies will be found around nesting areas in early June.

July and August will likely be our most consistent walleye fishing of the year as many of the Rainy Lake fish will relate to deeper structure.

September and October are simply my favorite months on the big lake with great chances as Tank fish!! Both of these months also allow groups to fish both Walleyes and Crappies!!

For anyone looking for further recommendations as far as Resorts to stay at or information on Rainy Lake Houseboats feel free to send an email. I’ll be more than happy to help you out.

Rainy Lake Houseboats features a view of VNP that is tough to match!! Give Billy, Cathy or Wendy a call today!! http://www.rainylakehouseboats.com

Also remember to stop in at the Rainy Lake One Stop for your bait and last minute convienence items. Rainy Lake One Stop is located on the right hand side of Hwy 11 on your way to the lake!!!! http://www.rainylakeonestop.com

As far as guide service You pick the species……..We’ll pick you up from Resort or Houseboat!! Bring Camera!!

Just got done reserving our houseboat for the last week of August It’ll be our first trip to Rainy Lake, my son and I’ve been to the BWCA twice but the FW didn’t like the idea of portaging or tent camping… couldn’t quite swing the jacuzzi boat though.
As far as guiding, whatcha got open 8/29 to 8/30?
    Already counting down the days…

Well that is a tough one. If you would have asked locals a month ago they’d likely say we’d be dipping boats right now. Still “Mother Nature” is as predictable as my 15 year old Teenage daughter……

I’d like to say first week in May for a complete ice out. Again a guess. I will say a later ice out than last year will have the Spring Houseboat fisherman……

Just talked to Billy D. from Rainy Lake Houseboats and we both agreed……That trip is shaping up to be PRIME TIME!!

Congrats on getting your Houseboat trip scheduled. Simply put GALS DIG sipping a glass of wine touring VNP!! Heck…….SO DO I!!

You are going to love the trip!!

As for August 29 and 30th……I’m open!! Pm me or email me and we can ink it in BIG FISH BLOOD!! I must warn you there is a chance you will fall in love with my 2011 “FIsh Casket” 300 Ponies of Fishfinding love!! I can pick you up directly from your houseboat. What we do is coordinate your primary destinations and I confirm your location with RLHB on our ship to shore Marine radio. I can also communicate with you Ship to shore on your onboard Marine Radio from the Houseboat.

Yes you will have it tough….Have to meet me off the back of your houseboat in the am I will recommend camping locations for you based on the bite taking place as we get closer attempting to minimize your day to day travel for the best fishing!!

Hey Chris. Can you pull up your reports on early season Pike. Think we are going to give it a try in a few weeks while Sturgeon fishing. The resort we are staying at has a nice weed grass island out front that is supposed to hold some nice pike.

Aaah…..I couldn’t figure out the resort from your description. LOL!! No ideas how LOTW pike fish early in the season, but my guess would be pinpoint the better spawning grounds and hit them with stickbaits…..

Never fished them early either but figured what you are using on your end of the river would be a good bet to start with.
