Has anybody stayed there? I am taking my family up there at the end of June.

Island view is an okay place for a bunch of guys. Family, I might think more about Thunderbird Lodge (they have everything you need there) or Sha Sha’s. I’ve stayed at all and I really like Thunderbird.
I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with Island view.April 5, 2011 at 7:22 pm #954284Don’t worry about Mike ( in the other thread ) he doesn’t like anybody.
Have fun and enjoy the scenery, that’s why you are going!

Since your already booked up it is always a nice idea to look around once your up here. There are a few land based resorts to choose from also including Sha-Sha resort and Thunderbird lodge. You also have the Houseboat experience with Rainy Lake Houseboats which I would highly recommend.
April 6, 2011 at 1:12 pm #954499Thanks Chris, if things do not go so well I will definitely check out other resorts.
And if my wife likes the house boat idea I guess I better sign up for the fall house boat trip that you and James are putting together so I can get an idea on how to run them .

The Fall trip we put together with Rainy Lake Houseboats is simply a blast. I mean…..FALL…….Rainy Lake….So much fun. Last year unfortunately we were greeted by the worst stretch of weather and cold fronts I’ve personally ever experienced here. This “Click Your heels together” wind and cold hindered our fall fishing no doubt. Still other big lakes such as LOTW, Leech, Winnie……Would have been almost unfishable in those conditions. Fall traditionally is simply an awesome time to hammer monster fish!! Definately want to contact Mr. Holst on reservations for that trip.
Oh………Driving those big houseboats…..a BREEZE!! I personally like to park them on sand beaches though
June 28, 2011 at 6:37 pm #976844Just got back a couple of days ago from staying at Island View Lodge(June 18-25). I would say that it is a great place to stay if you are going up with a bunch of guys and doing hardcore fishing. As for things to do with the family I would say look at a few other places. But the service and staff are very friendly and helpfull, the one thing that I wish they would have had a fire pit to have a campfire in the evening.
As far as the fishing, I would say it was good since it was my first time up and not really getting to get out at the prime times. I think I boated 15 or so eyes with my biggest being a 24in, and a couple of northerns, in the total of 10 hours or so I got to spend on the water. I would have loved to spend some more time on the water but taking care of a 2yr old by your self is not much fun, and it was after all a family vacation.
I am just glad I was able to get some time on the water before I head up there to do some serious fishing on the fall houseboat trip.
