    Gentleman

I’ve received a lot of Pm’s, phonecalls and emails as of late as guys are really starting to think about open water!! This is prime time for resorts and houseboat companies to start filling slots, so I would highly advise getting dates in oder to assure you can have your week of choice on the beautiful Rainy Lake here in 2011!! Many groups have discussed renting a houseboat this summer through Rainy Lake Houseboats. As I have mentioned before Billy and Tommy and the entire staff do a wonderful job helping you plan a wonderful houseboat trip. If your planning a trip with your family give them a call, and if you would like information from me of course feel free to ask away. If I don’t know the answer I surely will find out for you!!

May and early June on Rainy Lake is simply awesome multi-species angling. There is nothing better in my book than fishing aggressive fish after working finely tuned ice fishing presentations into late March. I think come may and June……WE ALL NEED THAT THUMP and SWIRL BY THE BOAT!!Everyone come early June is smiling from the Bass guys to Crappie boys. Of course the Walleye and Pike FREAKS are wearing there arms out fighting those big shallow water fish or trying to steady fish for pics!!

My understanding is there are a couple boats open for the early summer In Depth Outdoors/Rainy Lake Houseboat excursion. This is an incredibly affordable way to experience the “HOUSEBOAT LUXURY RIDE” with a great group of guys. As in the Fall I will be doing a pre-launch seminar doing my best to share some inside information as to what is working…….OR WHAT IS NOT last year by June 15th we had landed 51 pike exceeding 10lbs with countless eyes over 27 inches. Monster smallies on most trips simply by accident. Last year due to my Walleye/Pike bookings I didn’t get to fish slabs as much as I would have liked in the spring, but of course Rainy Lake has infamous Crappie fishing.

So in an effort to answer multiple questions in one message. Come alone, bring a friend, grab your favorite little “Chillin” or fill your own houseboat. I assure you this is simply a superior way to experience the wonders of Rainy Lake. Leave the tents and canoes behind and give your back a break this year!! You’ll have sore wrists and camera fingers instead! Pack a cooler of cold ones and burn some steaks on the grill on the front of your floating condo!!

May/June fishing simply wears a guy out!! Ask Cole

I have never used RLHB but have heard nothing but good about their operation.

I will be back up to Rainy on Memorial weekend as the fishing is simply awesome.

So much water and so little time.

I agree 100% with you Chris

Billy, Tommy and the whole staff at RLHB do a great job and have the nicest boats for rent on the lake. I have worked with the Dougherty family now for the 15 years. That is where I got my start in the tourism business and have learned many good things and made many close friends over the years because of Rainy Lake Houseboats.

Renting a houseboat is a way to spend a vacation with family, friends, co-works or customers. RLHB offers 9 diffrent styles of boats to rent. They range in size for 2-3 people up to boats that sleep 12. I can’t mention RLHB without takling about the Chairman II the grand daddy of them all. This boat package includes a guide for every 2 customers, a chief and the meals. And let me tell ya, you want go hungry on this boat, I am trying to figure out why I don’t tip the scales at 300lbs after a summer working off the Chairman II.

Never the less no matter what size group you have Rainy Lake Houseboats has boat that will fit your needs. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me, Rainy Lake Houseboats or Chirs. I have a link for Rainy Lake Houseboats below.

    Group update!

As of today (March 4) we’ve got groups or guys coming from the following areas for the June trip.

    Lakeville, MN
    Rochester, MN
    Fridley, MN
    Richfield, MN
    Whitebear, MN
    Cannon Falls, MN
    Prairie du Chien, WI
    Cuba City, WI
    Farley, IA
    Earlville, IA

We still have room for this trip if anyone’s interested. If you follow Chris’ reports you know that this is the best time of year to be chasing big walleyes, pike and smallies back in the bays. A big boat is NOT needed.

If anyone has any questions about attending… give me a shout. Email or phone both work.

I should have looked at this sooner. I already have a trip to Rainy on Memorial weekend and then another in mid June and Labor day weekend.

Sounds like a very fun trip on the houseboats. Man how Chris is correct on Rainy. This lake is simply an awesome fishery.

This is a fantastic time of year for guys working stickbaits up shallow. Big walleyes and Pike cruise the cool shallow waters in May and June looking for baitfish. The action can be simply heartstopping. Each year I go through many stickbaits that are simply ripped to pieces by ridiculously large pike and walleyes not to mention the big smallies guarding nests. I will be going in great detail of the techniques we employ during this period in the prelaunch seminar. I also am willing to answer PM’s on precisely what tackle you NEED to have in your box on this trip. I CANNOT WAIT for this shallow water bite.

For plastic fisherman this is likely the best period to sling jigs for tank walleyes. The Moxie and Ringworms work tremendous when matched up with perch imitations. I like to use 3/16 oz. firetiger jig heads from Bfishntackle.

Small shallow rockpiles and cabbage are DYNAMITE!! We are going to have the houseboats parked very close to the action!! ARE WE LEAVING YET!!

I agree with the May-June bite Chris.

This Memorial weekend again our group of 7 will be going up to Rainy.

We use stickbaits and fish no deeper than 11fow and really boat alot of eyes and pike.

Last year we boated about 5 very nice pike from 15-23#’s and so many eyes we lost count.

I also made a trip up for the late ice pike tip up fishing and did very well again. Largest pike was just a little under 20#’s.

    Rainy is a amazing fishery.

One day very soon I plan on going through RLHB’s to rent as ship for a week. I have watched them come and go and seen them parked for the night and it looks to ba a blast.
