I am hitting my head on my desk today…
I am not sure if I am happy about this cold weather we are getting up here in the north country… My new calandar said that it wouldn’t get below zero again till fall, it was wrong!!!! -30 this morning. A part of me wants the ice and snow to stay but the other part wants it gone.. If you ask my wife she really wants it gone.

Can you believe that just over a year ago we were getting the boats out and ready to fish the Rainy River.
I was looking at pictures from last year and i now have the itch for open water fishing…
Either way; I know one thing.. and that is that I will be fishing every chance I get from now till deer season in November.
Who wants to join me????? Come to Rainy Lake and Rainy River this spring and enjoy it for yourself.
Ice fish till the first part of April or get out the boats for Rainy River
I can almost feel that tap of the walleyes biting, the thump of the crappies and don’t forget about the sturgeon fishing at the end of April and first part of May.

Why wait til after the walleye season to fish sturgeon? I think they bite better and you get the bonus of a tackle box full of walleye jigs attached to your anchor rope!

    Very true Biggill-
It is a bonus that helps the wallet in the spring, if you can get them out of the rope ok without trashing it. Last spring was one of the best sturgeon years I can remember. It wasn’t an everyday but if you had the time to spend 2-3 days up here you caught planty of fish. Can’t wait to get out there.

I am trying to get there in mid March to give things a try, not sure if it will work out with the schedule though. I’ve never been up that way and it is definatly something I will be trying some day.
