Seems everyday no matter where I move to there is always this Otter fish house in the front yard.

Made a pretty bold move off the fish that we’ve been fishing for a couple weeks as they pretty much seemed as though they were in for a winters nap on our last trip. I don’t like to search new locations with customers, but without any days off sometimes this is reality.

We didn’t HAMMER the fish, but found fish much more responsive to our presentations pulling some big girls off the bottom with some eaters as well. Just to prove everyday is different presentation wise we went away from the 3/16 oz. H20 Precision jigs and back to a 1/8 oz. Lightning spoon. BINGO BANGO BONGO!! Big girls were up and down to the bottom lock on my LX5 acting like medium sized pike as they raced around before smacking the spoon!!

My hint of the day is when your pattern shuts down NEVER assume the lake has shut down. You need to have the confidence to completely change the pattern(Locations) you’ve been fishing at times. If fishing an isolated reef…..Might not want to fish a different isolated reef. In theory those fish that are located on this type of structure are full or just simply crabby. Look for fish in a different underwater eatery. Maybe the food out of town isn’t as good?? Sometimes…….It works!!

Congratulations Nathan on icing our first fat walleye of the day. Jerry and his son Nathan are always up for an adventure, and my friends this is one thing I always promise!! BTW the Antelope/Cheddar Brats you boys cooked up were amazing!! As a fishing guide when you are forced to use educated guesses on a trip it is a big relief when fish start showing up on the Marcum. Better yet when you hear FISH ON……….

BTW the International Falls “Snow machine” is still broken and seemingly stuck in the ON position. I don’t know the exact amounts we received overnight, but we had 3-4 inches prior to blowing off the lake.

This is one of those real winters boys. COLD and HEAVY SNOW. Our wood boiler greets me with the “Really??” look every morning. The kind of winter I remember playing “King on the Moutain” with the neighborhood boys on Big piles of snow before parents shut down the program. A couple years ago I said we just don’t get snow like that anymore….OK Mercy Yes we do!!

Get back on the ice Boys!! The best is in front of us.

Remember here on Rainy Lake our walleye season extends into the middle of April and Pike are open all year. Heck we just got started!! Right now I must admit chasing these big fish wearing a sweatshirt….Sounds pretty darn good.
