If you could choose one fish during the 2010/2011 ice fishing season which would it be?? 40+ Pike or 28+ Walleye??

Today there was no choice necessary as annual returning customers iced a 32,34,36 and 42 inch Pike along with this 28 inch walleye!!

Hey fish…….Might as well pick up the phone….We’ve got your number…….DIALED, and we KNOW your home!!

Jerry’s 42 inch Pike is quite an accomplishment caught on a jig stick with a Custom Jigs and Spins Jigging spoon tipped with a fathead. (Jerry claims greatest qoute of the day when he said to me “I guess these big Pike are pretty fun!!!”

Ryans 28 inch walleye surpassing his 27 inch walleye earlier in their trip was caught just before dark, and slammed a shiner! Almost forgot about his 38 inch Tank pike……….Yesterday Great fish Ryan!!

Darrin caught back to back 32 and 34 inch pike!!

Todd hammered this 36 inch 14lb Pike earlier in the day on a flag and sucker minnow utilizing a quick set rig.

Please enjoy these pics as much as our crew enjoyed the day catching these beasts!! Knuckles are sore from excessive “Knuckle bumping” ** Disclaimer soon to be added for Rainydaze Guide Service customers**.

There are NEVER guarantees in fishing, and as “In Depth” anglers we all realize this. Consistent efforts on big fish waters precisely where the big fish are locating themselves will produce big results over time. When the the outside of the puzzle begins to take form each season filling in those middle pieces can be VERY rewarding!!

Great fish men!! We’ll see you in March, and then again next January!!!

A special thanks to all of our valued Ice sponsors who continue to make our job both easier and more efficient while on the ice with our customers!! Otter Outdoors, Marcum Technology, Custom Jigs and Spins, Strikemaster augers, Lakemaster, snosuit and Thorne Bros Rods!!!

28 in walleye half way up gets eaten by 40+ plus pike and land them both.

I’d take the 40″ + Pike any day of the week.

    Chris,
Very impressive week, and great looking fish to boot….

I’d have to say for me, a 40″ Pike would top a 28″ walleye.
I think it really is a rarer fish, and not a lot to go around.

    Keep up the great work,
(side note) a friend of mine stopped off at Maurquart motors, saw your old Daze Casket (about a yr old on way soon to WY)(and herd of a new Casket on way in about April)

    YOU are the man….

Great to see such an enjoyable group of fishermen put the hammer to-em . Personally to catch a 40 plus pike on walleye rod and tackle is quite a feat , as last weekend I actually broke my rod on one of those tanks up there . I already am thinking about later in the year in your next out of the way hot spot Again I say great job

LOL!! Rarely Andy do people realize the work involved in attempting to keep on a big fish pattern. The Brutal travel conditions that had 4 snowmobiles taking snow over the windshield and plowing through a foot of slush at times was trying to say the least. Scoffing in the face of a northern Minnesota Blizzard is aggressive to say the least. Limitations on Ice travel, frozen snowmobile tracks, stuck otters, and WAYPOINTS LOST were all in the weeks work. Even from a fishing guides knowledge of a fishery the day to day challenges to conquer the biggest and baddest continues to have mapstudy a nightly event. To those that think we have a winter long “Milkrun” I assure you it’s not quite that easy…..Right Mike

Having guys like you, Tuck and Mike are great assets to Rainydaze Guide Service. Beyond that both Cheryl and I thoroughly enjoy our friendship and shared passion for fishing. Having Tuck land those big fish and seeing the passion he exudes for the outdoors is very refreshing in this day and age we live in.

BTW I might possibly be adding another Search and Destroy team member, and will OF COURSE swear him to secrecy. I also will have him interview with you boys. I would say likely after the interviewing process, and explaining in details(No Pay)…. (Wood Cutting) (Equipment Breaking)…..End of the deal we’ll still have a strong 3!!

BTW GET BACK UP HERE! THEY ARE DIALED!! Thinking forward to next year I have got a great plan of attack My schedule is quickly filling in for next December/January already.

I’m taking the day off to lick my wounds, and get some ice off my equipment!! Fix some broken stuff, introduce myself to the family again….. You best do the same pal!! Don’t worry we’re letting those tanks go to get bigger anyway.

BTW great information last night!! THAT my friend is beautiful.

Looks like a great trip up there!! Nice fish guys! Jerry always looks so excited when holding a big fish. Some things never change. I suppose he probably fought those fish like they were just the average sized ones too huh Ryan? Cool photos fellas!!

Ryan and I noticed in all of Jerry’s big fish pics he tends to not make eye contact with the camera!! It is my belief he simply humors me when I coach him into holding these “Girthy Gals” for evidence of the Beatdown. Thanks Jerry!! We are always in seek of anglers catching big fish!!

I’m not sure what is more impressive. Last years 29 3/4 inch walleye or this 42 inch pike via Jig Stick!! I predict there will be a small book signing event held by the man with subtle emotion. Maybe the book will be entitled…….Big fish “Cool, Calm and Collected”

I would sign Jerry’s book. I went to Canada with Ryan and Jerry back in 2000. I fished with Jerry one day, just him and I. He had a walleye up to the boat that would have been our big fish for the trip that got away. I knew he had a good fish on when I noticed his handle of his rod was bending while fighting the fish. I had the net ready to help land the fish. The fish was just about to the surface when it come unbuttoned. I was more worked up than Jerry. Jerry says, “oh well, guess that one will get bigger for the next guy” CLASSIC Jerry.

Chris, I know Jeff is pumped as he gears up, heading north to fish with you. I hope to see some good photos of you guys as well!!

As always we’ll give it a 150% effort hoping the fish give the same!!

Obviously time for you to get a crew up here!! BIG FISH HUNTERS ALWAYS WANTED.

I’m right in the midst of shoring up our guide schedule for 2011/2012 December/January Big fish hunts.

I assure you as the fight reaches holeside the intensity meter is HIGH. Those big walleyes are quite capable of throwing it into reverse. My biggest task is to keep anglers CALM. “We aren’t going to be able to flip this beast out” EASY…….EASY……EASY……Until the grip of Granrud brings home the bacon with fins. I assure you half of my trips this year have ended with wet sweatshirts up to my shoulder!!
