So nice being back on the ice again with customers. I’ve been on the ice now everyday since returning from the sunshine state. The bigger walleyes are starting to mix in with the eater fish. We’re fishing……….3 different patterns right now. 8-12 f.o.w. with current, 26-28 f.o.w. on a sand flat, and 36-38 f.o.w. off structure. Fish seem to be a bit scattered between the 3 pieces, and I expect in the next few days the fish will start to get more concentrated. I’ll try get a full report up at the end of the week. 1/8 oz. white H20 Precision jigs, as well as 1/8 oz. Lightning spoons have been triggering fish.

Nice fish as usuall,I am going to be in that area next week what do you think the snow ice conditions will be and wondering what a good access point to rainy is and a general area you would recommend fishing on rainy or kabetogama.I will be staying on kabetoga have sleds and towable fish house.

Nice pictures Chris. Never been on a guided ice fishing trip. Does a guy need to have their own sled for getting around with you?

Good question Mike I have (2) 2 up sleds, so can take 3 people plus myself with my equipment. 3 people really breaks up the price of a guided trip also. Each year I am getting more 5-6 people groups who bring an atv/sled for the extra people. I think the guide trip cost being split up makes it very reasonable per person. I also have the Otter fishhouses, so a guy simply needs to bring his fishing rods, and flasher. (Heck you make it up, and we’ll make it happen for you!!) Special note…..Just booked another group for 2012.

Groups of 3 or more need to either line up a sled or atv depending on ice conditions.

We also rent permanent houses for those seeking luxury……Along with a little fishing!! Quick sled rides from the resort for a nice meal, or smart talk.

There is an ice road plowed at Rainy Lake Marine in Sand Bay. There is also usually a road at the Voyageurs National park visitor center, and a privately plowed road off Tilson Bay. The visitor center road is not being plowed yet. Not sure if there will be one off Tilson this year or not. Atv/Sled travel is recommended, and either is fine with a light blanket of snow cover found on the main basin as of today. Ice conditions range are generally 6-10 inches.

Sand bay has been kicking out a lot of eater sized fish with a few bigger ones mixed in. First line breaks following the contours of Sand Bay in the 26-30 f.o.w are a good starting point.

A & T – We have hired Chris this year for our annual “Father son Trip”. After meeting him at the Ice Show and talking to James it sounds like we can’t miss. He hasn’t promised anything but sounds like we should be on fish for our trip. I am glad your son had a great trip. My 8 year old has owned the “BIG FISH” pool since we started this trip when he was six. Here is a photo of his 29 incher last year. With Chris who knows what this “Stick” will do this February before he takes all the dad’s money. For anyone looking for a guided trip, Chris is hands down the guy to deal with and we haven’t even gone on our trip yet. From all the referrals I have gotten and his communication not only on this site but via phone I don’t think you can go wrong. I am even going up this July (I hope) to fish the reefs with my younger brother.

Great report Chris keep em coming.

Thanks for all the kind words gentleman!! I can guarantee one thing……we will give you 150% effort, and nobody wants you to ice that big tank MORE than us
This 150% effort has me on the internet at midnight, and getting my gear together for tomorrows smackdown after that!!

BTW that “29” is a Tank and your little man oughta be pretty darn proud of that fish. There are MANY MANY grown men that haven’t sniffed a fish of that magnitude.

Our clients enjoyment on their trip is our highest priority, and that goes from our initial contact to our handshake when you have to head back home!! HOPEFULLY with memories of Big fish rather than the one that got away. (BTW I snapped off 2 monster pike today )

I truly feel blessed to spend my winters with with “Iceheads” like myself!! We had a Big 26 1/4 walleye this evening by a happy customer! FAT DARK FISH!! Congrats Brien!! Pics tomorrow morning………Running short of time!!
